Carrie’s wheelchair fundraiser

Hey, I’m Carrie.

Over the last few years my health has gotten worse, and I have been under medical investigation for why this could be. Right now, my primary doctor and my neurologist are thinking it may be functional neurological disorder (FND.)

This has been causing parts of my body to become paralysed, and it is usually my legs. This is also thought to potentially be the cause of my seizures, which I am awaiting the results of my electroencephalography for. This paralysis, although temporary, can last from a few minutes to multiple weeks at a time. It has become increasingly frequent over time, to it happening multiple times a day. Over this last year I have hardly left my university accommodation as I did not want to go somewhere and cause an inconvenience or put myself in a potentially dangerous situation.

I am a university student, and next year hopefully we will be taught on campus as opposed to through a computer screen. I have spent the last year in almost complete isolation, missing quite a few of my classes, and being too afraid to socialise because of my condition. I would like to save up for a wheelchair to get my life back to where I could go out and just not feel so... scared?

I feel lucky to have a job with a really compassionate boss so I can work towards this goal myself. I plan to pay down the rest of my university accommodation first, but this is a big goal of mine that would make my second year at university a lot easier, and hopefully help get my mental health back to a slightly better place. If you choose to donate, please know I would be eternally grateful.
