Carrie Hanenberger Bigelow’s Memorial Fund
Carrie often referred to herself as a “big lady” - even after she had lost literally hundreds of pounds.
I never quite understood why she embraced this seemingly disparaging moniker when it felt like merely an outdated caricature of her outward appearance circa 1999.
But Carrie was a big lady.
She had a big voice that could easily reach the furthest aisles of a church (or a Walmart - she didn't discriminate).
Carrie had a big sense of humor. Her comedic timing was the perfectly torrid lovechild of quiet intellect and self-deprecating slapstick.
She had big dreams. She found success in whatever she put her mind to: from community theater to legitimate Hollywood productions, from serving up chicken soft tacos to managing small businesses, from couch surfing to home ownership.
Carrie had big stories. If you’ve spent any amount of time with her, you definitely have a “Carrie story” or two to tell. She was remarkably charismatic and left an impression on everyone she met.
She made big moves. In 2011, Carrie left the only home she had ever known and made a life-changing cross-country move. With a fresh start here in Virginia, she eventually met her husband and became a mom to her sweet son, Jack.
Carrie had big plans. After nearly a decade on the east coast, she desperately missed her California home. She wanted to raise her son to know not only her family but the lifelong friends that she considers family.
This fundraiser is intended to help cover the overwhelming expenses associated with this unforeseen tragedy. Donations of any denomination are deeply appreciated.
Please keep Carrie's friends and family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
