I am Carrie Gibson's mother, Amanda Rutledge. On October 25 2023. Carrie realized her big toe on her left foot was swollen and discolored. She went to the ER and it was discovered that she had contracted a disease called necrotizing fasciatis. It is a rare and incredibly virulent disease. Apparently the infection moves very fast.
She was put into surgery where the surgeons felt it was necessary to amputate her leg from the knee down.
This coincided with her missing a paid for vacation to Italy. She had saved for that and it was nonrefundable.
Now, she is coping with the costs of retrofitting her home so she can continue her life as well as pay the attendant costs that insurances leave hanging. I would also like to have her be able to pay for a food service and transportation costs. She will eventually have a prosthesis that will allow her to better take care of herself.
If you know Carrie you know that as well as her work as a math professor, she has been involved in her community with many charities.
She is strong, ferocious, giving as well as funny as all get out!
Have a good day and thanks in advance.
