Carport BBQ – De Texas BBQ Learning Journey

After attending Meatstock Sydney 2026, Australia's largest barbecue festival, I knew for certain: this is my calling.

Seeing some of the world's best pitmasters in action and being part of that community confirmed what I had felt for years — barbecue is not just my passion, it's my future.

My goal is simple: to help grow authentic Low & Slow barbecue in the Netherlands.

Through workshops, private BBQ experiences, catering events, and content creation, I strive to share the techniques, flavors, and stories that make barbecue culture so special. Over the past two years, I have learned, discovered, and achieved more than I ever thought possible.

Meatstock Sydney was undoubtedly a major milestone, but at the same time, it was only the beginning.

While working alongside John Bates of Interstellar BBQ, I received an invitation that has stayed with me ever since:

"Now you need to come to Texas to cook with me."

Those words sparked something in me.

Texas is the heart of modern barbecue. It is where traditions are preserved, new ideas are born, and some of the world's best pitmasters continue to raise the bar every day. If I truly want to develop myself and bring authentic barbecue knowledge back to the Netherlands, there is only one place to go.

That's why, in 2027, I plan to travel to Texas for a two-and-a-half-week learning journey. During this trip, I hope to spend time working alongside respected pitmasters, visiting legendary barbecue restaurants, and learning directly from the people who have shaped today's barbecue scene.

My goal is not simply to visit Texas as a tourist. I want to gain hands-on experience, learn new techniques, understand different barbecue traditions, and immerse myself in the culture that has inspired me for years.

A journey like this requires extensive preparation, planning, and financial resources. The funds raised through this crowdfunding campaign will be used entirely to make this trip possible. This includes flights to Texas, transportation during the journey to visit various pitmasters and barbecue restaurants, accommodation throughout the two-and-a-half-week trip, and other essential expenses needed to make the most of this unique learning experience.

Everything I learn will be brought back home and shared with my customers, workshop participants, and the growing barbecue community in the Netherlands.

Throughout this journey, I will be documenting the entire experience through Instagram and YouTube.

I will take my followers behind the scenes at iconic BBQ joints, share pitmaster interviews, showcase cooking techniques, and tell the stories behind the people and places that make Texas barbecue legendary. From brisket to whole hog barbecue, from the pit room to customer service, every part of the journey will be shared.

By supporting this project, you are not only helping me grow as a pitmaster, but also helping bring authentic barbecue knowledge to thousands of barbecue enthusiasts across the Netherlands and beyond.

Supporters and sponsors will become part of this adventure and will be able to follow the journey through exclusive updates, photos, videos, and stories directly from Texas.

My ultimate dream is to open a dedicated Low & Slow barbecue restaurant combined with a workshop and event space in the Netherlands.

A place where people can enjoy authentic barbecue, learn the craft, and experience the culture that makes barbecue so much more than just food.

A journey like this requires extensive planning, preparation, and financial support. Travel costs, accommodation, transportation, and the opportunity to spend time learning from experienced pitmasters all come with significant expenses.

That is why I have launched this crowdfunding campaign.

This campaign is about more than a trip to Texas.

It is about investing in the future of Carport BBQ and helping build a stronger barbecue culture in the Netherlands. It is about learning from the best, sharing that knowledge with others, and taking another step toward a lifelong dream.

Na mijn bezoek aan Meatstock Sydney 2026, het grootste barbecuefestival van Australië, wist ik het zeker: dit is mijn roeping.

Het zien van enkele van de beste pitmasters ter wereld en deel uitmaken van die gemeenschap bevestigde wat ik al jaren voelde: barbecue is niet zomaar mijn passie, het is mijn toekomst.

Mijn missie is helder: authentieke Low & Slow barbecue groter maken in Nederland.

Met workshops, private BBQ Experiences, catering en content op social media deel ik de technieken, smaken en verhalen die barbecue zoveel meer maken dan alleen eten. In de afgelopen twee jaar heb ik meer mogen leren, ontdekken en bereiken dan ik ooit had durven dromen.

Meatstock Sydney was zonder twijfel een hoogtepunt, maar tegelijkertijd ook pas het begin.

Tijdens het werken met John Bates van Interstellar BBQ kreeg ik een uitnodiging die sindsdien in mijn hoofd blijft rondzingen:

Die woorden wakkerden iets in mij aan.

Texas is het hart van de moderne barbecuewereld. Het is de plek waar tradities worden bewaakt, nieuwe ideeën ontstaan en waar de beste pitmasters ter wereld iedere dag de lat hoger leggen. Als ik mezelf verder wil ontwikkelen en authentieke barbecuekennis naar Nederland wil brengen, dan is er eigenlijk maar één plek waar ik naartoe moet.

Daarom wil ik in 2027 voor tweeënhalve week naar Texas reizen.

Tijdens deze reis wil ik meelopen met gerenommeerde pitmasters, iconische barbecuezaken bezoeken en leren van de mensen die de hedendaagse barbecuecultuur hebben gevormd.

Mijn doel is niet om Texas als toerist te bezoeken.

Ik wil praktijkervaring opdoen, nieuwe technieken leren, verschillende regionale barbecuetradities ontdekken en mij volledig onderdompelen in de cultuur die mij al jaren inspireert.

Alles wat ik leer, neem ik mee terug naar Nederland om te delen met mijn klanten, workshopdeelnemers en de groeiende barbecuecommunity.

Zo'n reis vraagt om veel voorbereiding, planning en natuurlijk financiële middelen. De crowdfunding zal volledig worden gebruikt om de reis mogelijk te maken. Denk hierbij aan vliegtickets naar Texas, vervoer tijdens de reis om verschillende pitmasters en barbecuezaken te bezoeken, accommodatie gedurende de tweeënhalve week en de overige kosten die nodig zijn om deze leerervaring optimaal te benutten.

Gedurende deze reis zal ik uitgebreid content maken voor Instagram en YouTube.

Ik neem mijn volgers mee achter de schermen bij legendarische BBQ-joints, deel gesprekken met pitmasters, laat technieken zien en vertel de verhalen achter de mensen en plekken die Texas barbecue zo bijzonder maken. Van brisket tot whole hog barbecue en van de pitroom tot de service; alles komt aan bod.

Met jouw steun help je dus niet alleen mij om mezelf verder te ontwikkelen als pitmaster, maar draag je ook bij aan het delen van authentieke barbecuekennis met duizenden barbecueliefhebbers in Nederland.

Mijn ultieme droom is het openen van een eigen Low & Slow barbecue-restaurant, gecombineerd met een workshop- en evenementenruimte in Noord-Holland.

Een plek waar mensen niet alleen geweldig eten kunnen ervaren, maar ook de technieken, verhalen en cultuur achter authentieke barbecue kunnen ontdekken.

Zo'n reis vraagt om veel voorbereiding, planning en natuurlijk financiële middelen. Vliegtickets, vervoer, accommodatie en de mogelijkheid om mee te draaien met ervaren pitmasters brengen aanzienlijke kosten met zich mee.

Daarom ben ik deze crowdfunding gestart.

Deze crowdfunding gaat over veel meer dan alleen een reis naar Texas.

Het gaat over investeren in de toekomst van Carport BBQ. Over leren van de besten ter wereld, die kennis delen met anderen en een volgende stap zetten richting een levenslange droom.

Iedere bijdrage, groot of klein, brengt mij een stap dichter bij Texas én een stap dichter bij mijn droom.
