Ending Well: Medical/Burial help

Carolyn is hoping to end her life well, with dignity.

Last week, her oncologist told her that he couldn't understand how she was still here. There's nothing left to her body, and several parts are barely functioning. But she is strong and she is stubborn and she wants to cover her final expenses before she goes.

Carolyn was born into a family where her name was never even put on her birth certificate. She wants to die in a way that shows a hard fought sense of self worth and stories for her grandchildren that will always remember her name.

Two years ago, she was healthy and strong. But a year ago, she was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, after having been misdiagnosed by an ER doctor for months. From that moment on, she chose to fight; to spend her time with family; and to remain true to her hard fought sobriety. When she started hospice in June, she also moved back to her roots in Peoria, to be closer to family. It has been a challenge to move away from her support system, but she got stronger, left hospice and restarted treatment - striving each day for more time.

She's hoping for another miracle or two. But after the expenses of moving and illness, she needs help.

Simce we started this campaign, your donations have assisted Carolyn with the extra costs of being so sick.  It has covered the costs of extra medication, extra laundry, cab rides in the middle of the night when the emergency room released her and she had no ride home. We have bought an extra heater for her apartment and some warm clothing that fits, because after 2 months, Peoria public housing hasn't repaired the heat in her bedroom.  we have gotten her set up with stable medical transport for her regular daytime appointments. We have used all the donations to this point to made Carolyn's daily life and as pain free as possible.

Carolyn also now has a reliable and caring part time caregiver who has been an incredible help.

Because of the extent of her expenses, we haven't yet been able to prepay her funeral/ cremation. That has become the priority.

Together, raising these funds would be a miracle  for her- one of memories with family and dignity at the end of her life. Your help in bringing these miracles to life would   bring joy at the end of her life and thankfulness more than could be measured.
