Carolyn's Ocular Cancer and Prosthetic Eye Journey
Donation protected
Hi all,
My name is Nicole, and I make up one quarter of Carolyn’s three-nieces-and-one-nephew. Alongside Lisa, one of Carolyn’s closest friends, we are reaching out for your help.
Our beloved aunt and friend, Carolyn, was recently diagnosed with an incredibly rare disease: eye cancer.
Ocular cancer occurs at a rate of about 5 to 7 cases per million people per year in North America and Europe. Because of its rarity, patients often need care through specialized cancer centres or ophthalmic oncologists.
Carolyn’s diagnosis has been overwhelming and understandably devastating. Despite this, she has responded with courage, resilience and bravery. While we’re incredibly grateful that the cancer hasn’t spread, her only treatment option is a life-altering one: on May 8, Carolyn will undergo surgery to have her eye removed. After surgery, she will face a long road of healing, including eventual fitting for a prosthetic eye.
For anyone who is able, we ask for your help as we aim to raise $10,000 to support Carolyn while she battles this devastating disease. Any funds raised will help supplement loss of income, medical out of pocket expenses and the uncovered balance for her artificial eye. Our goal is to alleviate some financial burden, so Carolyn can focus on recovering and adjusting to her new life with vision-loss.
Carolyn is a brilliant individual, holding her Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). She’s a three-decade social worker who has dedicated her life to helping others through some of their darkest times. She brightens every room with her hilarity, wit and kindness. She goes above-and-beyond for everyone around her – now it’s Carolyn's turn to be cared for.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
With much appreciation,
Nicole and Lisa
