I am a 75-year-old handicapped retiree. I have been diagnosed with end-stage osteoarthritis in both knees. I have great difficulty being mobile. I need a new lift for my vehicle so I can get to my doctor appointments and such without having to always rely on someone else. I live entirely on my social security since my husband passed in 2019.
That lift stopped working in 2021, so I have had to do without getting around. In Jan of 2024, after scraping together money from family and savings, I purchased a new lift for a road trip in May. I found out quickly that lift did not work. It had cables which were supposed to be easy to pull up and self-tighten to secure my scooter. In Nashville, we almost lost the scooter twice on the interstate because the cables came loose. Also found out that you have to reach down and hold in a release switch to release the cables. I have no way of doing that because I can't stand that long. Luckily, a friend's son was able to do all that.
When I returned home, I tried to return the lift that I had paid almost $900 for, but because it was over 60 days, they wouldn't take it back, even though I explained that I had purchased it specifically for that May trip. I even spoke to a lawyer and was told fees would exceed that. So I am stuck.
I can't do this anymore. I need some of my independence back. There is no way I can save for the type of lift I need.
So, I find myself in the position of having to raise the funds on my own, with your help.
I have attached an image of the lift I need.
Please, if you can find it in your heart to help, it certainly would be appreciated and would allow me to regain some independence. Thank you in advance.
