Carol’s Legacy Run

Donation protected
Hi Everyone, my name is Brendan Walsh and as part of my charity run, I will be raising money for three cancer charities close to my heart. Any donations or support are greatly appreciated to these amazing organisations. Thanks!

20th August 2021, a day my family and I will never forget. Unfortunately we lost my mother Carol after an 8 year long battle with cancer. Throughout it all, my mother embodied resilience and positivity like I’ve never seen. As I’m old enough to look back now and notice the brave face she put on for many years to hide the reality from my sister and I was unbelievable. One of Carol’s journeys that she would have taken many times throughout the years is travelling up and down to the Bons Secours Hospital in Cork for treatment. While I might be considered mad, I thought “why don’t I take this on myself?”

On the 19th June 2026, I will run from my front door at home in Tipperary to the hospital in Cork, replicating the journey Mam would have taken for many years. It might come across as a mad idea, but a big part of doing charity runs is “why”, and I feel I could not have a better “why” than this one.

I will be raising money for three charities which helped Mam and our family over the years. These being:
Care Cancer Support in Clonmel
Solas Cancer support in Waterford
And Saint Bernadette’s Ward in the Bons Secours hospital Cork (donations will be given to the Bons Secours cancer charity, Cúnamh).

Cancer is something that has hit hard on most people’s lives over the years. Whether the battle be a losing one or a winning one, it still leaves scars. I hope by doing this we can help charities that support those in need, and so these great organisations can keep offering support to those who need it most.

I would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who has helped so far, many family members and friends have helped me along the journey of getting this up and running and their work does not go unnoticed. I am extremely grateful to all of them.

With Christmas coming around the corner, there is no better time to help support these causes, the work they do to help patients enjoy their festivities as much as possible while also providing utmost care and support is phenomenal. Every little helps these organisations and it would be great to give back in support of the work they do coming up to Christmas and in the next few months leading up to the run.

If anyone would like to donate to these great causes, you can do this through the GoFundMe page linked here and in the bio of my Instagram:

It’s going to be a long road ahead for myself, but with the support from family and friends around me, I have no doubt I will be able to make my mother proud.

We won’t give up until cancer does ❤️
