Sitting across the restaurant, you’re feeling down in the dumps; you’ve had a bad day and all of a sudden you hear the most vibrant, loud, contagious laugh. You look to see where it is coming from and you’re greeted with a “HEY THERE! HOW YA DOING?” That’s Carol!
Everyone who knows Carol knows she has a heart of gold. She is a loving mother, devoted wife, proud grandmother, a caring aunt and sister. Whether it’s the children she has picked up on the bus for the last 39 years for Rondout Valley School District, her family, her friends from past and present, the campground, or just the acquaintance walking by her at Walmart…she always greets everyone with a smile and asks how they are doing. She tries to help out every where she can – charities, fundraisers, dinners, you name it - she will give her last $5.00 to help out. Now is our time to give back to our sweet Carol!
Carol went to the hospital a couple weeks back and they discovered she had a pulmonary embolism. Unfortunately, the bad news did not stop there. Carol has been diagnosed with late stage breast cancer that has spread to her bones and lungs. She is a fighter but needs some help right now from all of us. We all know someone who has been impacted by cancer before, and we know the toll it can take on finances. Charlie will need to take her to Poughkeepsie for treatments as well as continual appointments for the cardiologist, pulmonologist, and oncologist. She is also currently out of work and doesn’t have her income contributing to the household. Additionally, copays and deductible costs will start adding up.
Carol has a fight ahead of her. But with our help, the stress of finances might be lessened with our small town (and beyond!) coming together and supporting her. She has touched so many lives from driving school bus, being a lifelong resident of the Kerhonkson and Accord area, and of course - being a friend to everyone she meets.
Please say a prayer for her, her family, and her doctors, nurses, and caregivers during this time. The family would like to thank everyone for their generosity and love.
