Caroline Crushes Cancer

Almost two months ago, I received the unfortunate news that Caroline Tobase had been diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer. At first, it was incredibly difficult to process this information. Caroline is more than just a dear friend. She is has been my “work mum” ever since I graduated from college over eight years ago.
I would be devastated if Caroline was no longer in my life, as would many others who she has blessed throughout the years. Those that know Caroline can attest that she is an amazing soul and one of the most thoughtful individuals you will ever know. In the time that I’ve known Caroline, she has never hesitated to open her home to all of her friends. Apart from being the ultimate host, she always makes time to care for her family & friends, her pets, and to pursue her hobby of ballroom dancing.
Caroline is incredibly resilient and has the courage to crush her cancer. But she needs our help. The cancer that Caroline was diagnosed with is one of the most challenging cancers to treat, especially when caught at later stages. Fortunately, Caroline’s cancer was caught early. This means that she is one of the rare candidates for a complex surgery called the “Whipple Procedure”—a procedure designed to remove the tumor from the pancreas before spreading to other parts of the body.
To prepare for the surgery, Caroline has been undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy. While Caroline and her husband Shu have medical coverage, the out-of-pocket expenses for cancer treatment are significant. As the out-of-pocket expenses begin to pile up, Caroline and Shu are worried about the financial toll that this will have on their lives. This includes the likely possibility that they will lose their home in Tewksbury, New Jersey—a home they worked so hard to buy and which was the home-away-from-home for me and so many others throughout the years.
No one should ever have to bear such financial stress while suffering through illness. Because of this, I have started this page with the hope to relieve some of the finance burden, so that Caroline can focus her energy on crushing her cancer. It would be amazing if you could find it in your hearts to help Caroline in her time of need, either financial or by sharing her story with your networks. If you are able to donate, your funds will go toward the following:
· Surgery (Whipple Procedure)
· Flights for Caroline and Shu to the UK to visit Caroline’s family
· Post-surgery chemotherapy and treatment
