Carole's Fight For Life
Donation protected
As a family we are trying to raise money for our Sister, Sister in law, Daughter , Auntie & most importantly Mother & Wife, Carole Devlin Rowlands. Carole really needs help and we are planning various fundraising events, such as a family trek up Ben Nevis on the 1st of June and her younger brother doing two marathons weeks apart taking place on the 28th of April & 26th of May also a 5k run on the 25th of May. All money raised will go towards a much needed electric wheelchair, and to help adapt her house to accommodate her needs. Any donations no matter how small will be gratefully appreciated !
These are Carole's words and her story so far.
Hello everyone,
Just a little story about me !
Six years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer which was a big shock to the whole family. However I got through the treatment, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, with as much determination and positivity as I could and lived to tell the tale ! Our wee boy was only at 3 the time, so you have to keep going for them. I swore I would never do it again and so we got on with our lives, including Steve and I getting married, working full time and seeing our wee boy off to school.
Now fast forward to the beautiful summer of 2018. The sun never stopped shining and it was at this time I developed weird pains and sensations in my right side. Numerous visits to the GP and hospital took place, but no one could find the cause. It wasn't until my leg started to go numb in December that an emergency MRI revealed the cause. I had a tumor in my spinal cord. I had surgery just before Christmas and my mode of transport now is a wheelchair. I had chemotherapy on Christmas Day and I am now over half way through the course, with the hope of getting rid of the tumor. At the same time I am having rehabilitation at the Astley Ainslie Hospital in Edinburgh. I am determined to get as strong as I can and I hope to get home to my family in a couple of months. Who knows what the future will be but as always I can only look on the positive side of things and keep smiling !
