Hi friends,
Some of you may be aware that my mom was recently hospitalized following a bad fall in September.
Before the fall, she had chronic pain in her back caused by osteoarthritis, and 6 months ago she had an ablation procedure to treat affected nerves along her spine. Unfortunately the procedure seemed to make her pain worse, not better, and other symptoms began to develop.
Her fall occurred when her left leg was giving out. She took a hard blow to the head which required stitches. In the past few months, she has completely lost the ability to use either of her legs at all. On top of this, she has developed difficulties with swallowing and her speech is impaired.
During the hospitalization, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. However there is also speculation that she has suffered a stroke following the fall.
We are still in the process of sorting all of this out and seeking answers, while my dad and I come to terms with the fact that mom is a different person from just 6 months ago, now medicated and bedridden.
She was in a skilled nursing facility until I brought her home the day before Thanksgiving as she was not improving and she was losing motivation. Also, anyone who has seen mom and dad together knows they are inseparable.
She now has an amazing nurse working hard to keep her safe and comfortable at home. Needless to say, unexpected expenses and medical bills are coming at them hard and fast. We have listed their home for sale in Ormond Beach so I can move them to Atlanta to support her care. I have also been applying for any and all assistance she may be eligible for and some of you have requested I set up this Go Fund Me. If you would like to help, please know your support is greatly appreciated.
I know mom enjoys seeing your messages on Facebook, they keep her spirits high so please keep those coming. Please understand she is not able to speak on the phone. Feel free to direct message me on Facebook if you have additional questions.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for keeping mom in your thoughts and prayers. She's a very special lady and I know she loves you all.
With love and appreciation,
Dana and Jim Treiber
