Carol Sulzman's - Oberlin, Kansas - Stray Cat Fund

Donation protected
Hello everyone.

My Mom, Carol Sulzman, passed away last May in Oberlin Kansas, the place she called home for the last 15 years of her life.

If you know me, you know how much I love cats and I get that love from somewhere and that somewhere is from my Mom. She was a cat lover all her life. Like a MAJOR cat lover. A few Christmases ago Louise and I gave her the "Crazy Cat Lady Action Figure" as a stocking stuffer and she was like, "This is really not that far off." Truly it was not.

Oberlin Kansas is a great little town in Wester Kansas. It's a small town, it has a cool downtown with cobblestone streets, and old West looking buildings. It's sits in the middle of the Kansas Plains and it's filled with really great people. And..... cats. So many cats. Too many strays, that need help.

My mother did not have a lot of money; she was on a fixed income, but anytime she had extra money she would trap any strays she could and get them to the local vets where she would pay to get them fixed and vaccinated. Then she would pick them up, and provide them shelter and food, for forever.

She had a few indoor kitties at all times (which she also rescued off the streets) but she fed and sheltered many, many MANY more in her neighborhood. Her tiny backyard was basically a stray cat motel.

There's a lot of other kind people in Oberlin that do similar things to help the kitties. But the cat population is there is too much. It is not easy being a street kitty in Oberlin or anywhere. They suffer in the winters, and the females are basically relegated to a life of having babies, sometimes more than one litter, every year until they are well into their senior years. That is a hard life.

I want to honor my mother by setting up this GO FUND ME in her name and in remembrance of the kindness she showed the cats in her much loved town.

I am working directly with the city of Oberlin and the 2 Vets there, to help get as many cats spayed and neutered as possible.

HEARTLAND VETERINARY SERVICES and HIGH PLAINS VETERINARY SERVICES

100% of donations will go directly to the 2 vets in town for this endeavor. They will give me monthly reports on how it is working and how many cats have been helped.

I will be taking out an ad in the local paper to let the people know this fund is available to them and the outdoor, stray/feral cats that they may be feeding and trying their best to help.

I do think we can help a lot of cats with this fund and end some of the cyclical suffering of the kitties and help Oberlin Kansas. All of which my Mother would wholeheartedly approve of.

Before I go.. Please enjoy the pictures below. Mollie (black and white) and a picture of her babies who were living in my Mom's garage.

Before she passed away my Mom made me promise to take all 4 of them and find them great homes: Literally right up until the end of her life my Mom was focused on the cats. Thank you for helping me honor her in this way.

(We ended up keeping Mollie and I found homes for all three babies with good friends of ours here in Denver. )
