As some of you may know, my sister Carol Matey was diagnosed with breast cancer on April 21, 2020. If this couldn't be terrifying enough, losing your dad March 26, 2020 and your mom falling and having to have surgery on her elbow May 11, 2020 and then add Covid on top of all this made for a very very rough long road for our family.
Carol had surgery to undergo a mastectomy, which resulted in her having to take many weeks off of work along with all the medical bills she incurred.
I guess one of the best things is that she did not have to go through chemo. Yes, she did have to undergo radiation for 28 days Monday through Friday everyday. As a result of radiation, the burns come with it. Which is very painful and irritating to the skin. She is now off work again so she can heal from her treatments to date. All the while having to finish her few remaining treatments.
Once she is healed and the doctors give her the go ahead, she will undergo yet another mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. This also means even more time off of work and additional medical bills.
I can't believe that not only my sister but that anyone would have to endear this pain and agony and to have to pay for it on top of all that.
More updates to come as we hear...
