Hello Family & Friends,
I am sorry to inform you that our cousin, Carol D. Fletcher, of Oakland, California passed away Friday, February 23, 2024.
Her neighbors initiated a wellness check, and the local authorities found her unresponsive in her home Saturday February 24, 2024. The coroner’s believe she had a heart attack and collapsed. As you all may know for 50 years plus Carol had lived a reclusive lifestyle with extraordinarily little contact with family and friends. She was the daughter of Willie Lee Matthews and John Fletcher. Willie Lee was one of nine siblings born to Owen and Indiana Matthews.
Carol had no siblings or children and the only surviving family are the Matthews family cousins.
Carols remains lay unclaimed with the Alameda County Coroner’s Office. If Carol’s remains are not claimed by anyone, she will become the status as “Abandoned” and assigned to a Public Administrator to dispose of her. To avoid this from happening the Deputy assigned to her case suggested direct cremation.
Death can be difficult for us to understand, especially when it is sudden. All of us will be feeling a variety of emotions: shock, sadness, or confusion. What is most important is that we care for and support each other as family.
All donations will go towards the cause of putting our relative properly to rest with dignity.
I hope that you all can find it in your hearts to contribute as we honor and remember the life of our cousin and friend Carol Fletcher.
Peace and Blessings to all!
