April 3, 2016 update from Burt on Carmen below ...

Hello everyone, both Carmen's chemo and radiation treatments are complete and side-effects are now peaking. Starting next week, she will have completed the hardest part, and she should start getting better. She is extremely tired and weak now (sleeps a lot). But her weight loss has now stabilized and she is excited about the coming days (today she painted her finger nails)  :)  She has told me that she has felt Gods arms wrapped around her, and we thank all those who have faithfully prayed for her recovery. Carmen’s journey is touching many lives and we are so Blessed to have so many friends.  We are especially thankful for all that our families, Elizabeth Boy Scout Troop 636, and our Majestic View Church have done for us. What a special blessing we have received.  The meals, the transportation to Carmen's appointments, the financial support, the gifts… WOW… so over-whelming! Once Carmen feels better, more thank you cards will be coming…

Thank you for all that you have done!

Burt and Carmen

Carmen Stanfill has been battling Squamous cell cancer of the tongue since the first indicators in 2001. She has undergone 6 surgeries to date relating to this cancer.

On December 10, 2015 she underwent the most radical and invasive surgery to date to remove the cancerous tissue in her mouth, tongue and throat in addition to undergoing massive and extensive reconstructive work. The surgery required 11 hours to complete and two surgical teams.

January 16, 2016 update from Burt:  "Carmen's surgery last month to remove the cancerous tumor was successful and the new tissue inside her mouth and tongue is healing well. However, due to exstensive perinueral invasion (possible spread of cancer to surrounding nerve areas) she will have to udergo both radiation and chemotherapy treatments. The treatments will begin in approximately 2 weeks and will be daily for several weeks. Please pray for minimum side effects and maximum effectivness."

"Your love through financial support has made such an impact with us.  The funds for Carmen are already helping us with needed expenses and alleviating anxiety in this area.  Unmerited favor is the definition of God’s Grace to us all and I am especially feeling the emotions of the season as I pause to say “Thank You” for all that you have done.

The Stanfill family …”

We are raising money for this lovely family because of the exceptional kindness and love they have shown their friends and communities in Kiowa and in Elizabeth, where they both volunteer extensively. Both Carmen & Burt's older sons are Eagle Scouts and their youngest son is a Life Scout. The older boys attend college at the University of Wyoming and both are serving in the Wyoming Army National Guard. Burt also served our country in the United States Air Force. He worked for US West/Qwest/Centurylink Corporation for the last 17 years until he was laid off more than a year ago. He now works in car sales and takes on metal work and welding to help meet the family’s financial needs. Carmen has had her own career in corporate phone support and, as such, will be unable to go back to this type of work for quite some time.

Please donate generously to this wonderful family to help lighten their financial burden. The money will go a long way to address past medical expenses, current insurance deductibles and future medical and rehabilitative costs associated with Carmen's treatment and recovery.

I am just one of the many friends of the family who has watched Carmen quietly and bravely fight this battle for so long. It
became necessary for her to take the radical steps to overcome this cancer and we are all certain, with God's grace, that she has!!  :)
