Carmen's home in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico suffered severe damage as a result of Hurricane Maria. I personally witnessed the destruction as I was in Puerto Rico at the time the storm hit. A large portion of her roof and most of the shingles were blown away by the force of the strong winds, allowing large amounts of water to come into her house, ruining most of her floors, furniture, appliances, clothes and other items. The ceilings and walls of her home are now covered with mold, and her back patio was destroyed. In addition, the windshield of her car shattered, and her property is full of debris and large uprooted trees.
Fortunately, Carmen was not hurt because she was at her sister Naomi's house during the storm. However, she has had to relocate temporarily until her home can be rebuilt. In addition, she is unemployed because her small business, Fairy Cakes, was affected first by Hurricane Irma and then by Hurricane Maria. Due to a lack of electricity in the area where her business is located, she will not be able to reopen for the foreseeable future.
Carmen is a wonderful, talented and generous woman, who dedicated many years of her life to the children of Puerto Rico with the Museo del Niño de Puerto Rico, which she founded and managed for over two decades. Let's help Carmen come up with the money to rebuild her home! The funds collected will go directly into Carmen's account.
