At 90 years old, the dedicated and beloved matriarch of the family passed away. After the passing of her husband 41 years ago, Carmen raised her family of four as a single mother. Now a grandmother of two and a great-grandmother of 7, she will live on through cherished stories, anecdotes of craziness, and moments of laughter that are her indelible legacy.

Carmen had a burial plot paid for decades ago. She also had a burial insurance plan; however, because she passed just one month before full coverage would have taken effect, this plan will only cover about 30% of the remaining costs. As a result, the family is now facing the unexpected remaining expenses.

Many of you know that Carmen lost her daughter Martha to cancer 9 years ago. Carmen’s daughter Jacqui (aka “Yaki”) has been her primary caregiver for the past half dozen or more years – foregoing significant income for the honor of ensuring her mother’s best life. Carmen’s sons have shared this task, too, while working to keep up with basic expenses.

Although over 1/3 of the costs have already been covered, the remaining expenses to provide even a basic, dignified farewell are shocking. An estimated $9,800 is still needed.
