- Hi My Name is Miriam. I have heard of Go Fund Me, of course, but it is not something I ever thought I would need to use. I am desperate. My daughter has multiple health issues, one of them, and I believe the worst of them is that she is dependent on alcohol to cope with all her problems. I thought I understood what that meant until I had to watch what she goes through with this mental health illness. The pain she endures daily is agonizing to watch. She has been living with me after a bad break up for 15 months and during that time every week she tries again and again to escape her addiction and be free to live a fulfilling life. She just can’t do it on her own. I feel like life keeps knocking her down. It is always one thing after another for her. She has ADHD and was bullied as a child; she has suffered many kinds of abuse as a teenager, and I won’t go into detail about this to protect her privacy, but she has PTSD as a result. She was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. So far, the brain tumor isn’t fast growing so that is a positive thing. She saw a neurologist last week and will be going for more tests to determine more as she has experienced seizures. She has suffered physical abuse at the hands of bad partners and struggles to cope with all this using alcohol to block out the pain. I want to send her to Homewood Health Centre for treatment. They do have public beds at Homewood but there is a two-year wait. This facility has very good outcomes and I would like to give her the best chance at success. The problem is the cost. The cost for a six-week stay is $17,430.00. Compared to other Private facilities the cost is reasonable since the medical portion is covered by OHIP. All my partner Chris and I have is our Government Pensions as income. I have an RRSP but after taking out the maximum that isn’t locked in I still need about $8700.00. I know this is a lot of money so I am hoping if everyone can give a little bit I can reach my goal. Please help me help her.
