Carly Kempton’s Medical Expense Fundraiser

Donation protected
On June 27th, Carly was at Como Pool with her kids and friends when she suffered a grand mal seizure. She was taken by ambulance to the ER, where she regained consciousness and tests initially came back normal. During her follow-up appointments in the weeks that followed, an MRI found a low-grade glioma in the right temporal lobe of her brain. Glioma is a term used to define cancer of the glial cells that surround nerve endings in the brain. In the last few weeks, Carly has met with neurologists, neurosurgeons, oncologists, and radiologists both at M Health and the Mayo Clinic to determine the best plan to treat this. The doctors she talked to agree that surgery, followed by a combination of radiation and chemotherapy treatment is the best course of action.

On September 7th, Carly will have brain surgery to remove this glioma. During surgery, they will biopsy the glioma to determine the kind of tumor and the grade of her cancer, and her surgeon will attempt to remove as much of the tumor as possible. Because brain tumors can be difficult to remove depending on the surrounding brain tissue and how difficult it can be to separate from the normal brain tissue, radiation (proton) therapy is recommended as a follow-up and then chemotherapy. Carly will need 3 weeks of recovery after this surgery. Then she will begin therapy after recovery. Radiation therapy will take about 6 weeks. Chemotherapy will be 6 cycles, with one cycle equaling one month.

As many of you visiting this page know, Carly is a true, one-of-a-kind light to all she meets and spends time with. Her listening ear and honest advice, her selflessness, her unique storytelling, and her fun-loving nature - all qualities we have each individually grown to love and need as an essential part of our own lives. Now, she needs her village as she begins this journey of recovery and healing. She is one of the strongest people I know, and she will no doubt show this strength fiercely throughout this, but there are so many things that can be done to make this lighter for her.

Please consider donating to her Gofundme page to help off set medical costs. She will be driving back and forth to Mayo during radiation treatment, so gas cost will also accumulate. Any amount will help relieve some financial stress and is greatly appreciated.
