Help needed more than ever for vet bills and debts 

After a long battle with his dental diseases along with respiratory issues, he has left us heartbroken but relieved knowing that now he is in peace and no longer suffering. 
For the past few years, this lil guy has given us so much love and good memories despite his illness and many trips to the vet. For the past months, we had to bring him for regular teeth trims every month and give him many meds to keep him comfortable. Until the very last moment, he never gave up.
We had to make one of the hardest decisions of our lives but to accept and let him go. These few years have not been easy financially but we told ourselves at least our furbaby was having the care he needed. We have sacrificed so much, but it was all worth it.
Seeing him happy and so loving regardless of his illness was more than what we could have asked him and we had a lor more time with him than what was expected ❣️.
Sadly last week that was it, we tried everything we could but his body gave up on him even though he was still full of live and trying his hardest to stay with us. 

This is why, I am asking you once again for some help. Now that he is gone, we are grieving the best we can but all the veterinary bills have pur a serious burden on us. We spent over $2500 only in the last year for his treatments.
I know I am asking for a lot, but if anything just sharing our campaign would mean a lot.

Hi! My name is Amanda and I am the co-owner with Simon of 3 beautiful lil pet degus. As many of you might not know what they are here’s a simple way to describe them; they are small rodents from South America similar to a chinchilla or a squirrel who usually live in captivity for about 5 to 8 years.

This campaign is to help us pay the medical bills of one of our degus who got sick, Carlton Banks Sr.. He is currently being hospitalized at the vet and the treatments and hospitalization fees are quite expensive. I am unemployed since last July due to a personal situation, and I have been living off my savings. As this is an emergency and unplanned situation the financial stress attached to Carlton’s medical bills is quite overwhelming on top of the emotional stress alone.

Carlton is now about 2,5 years old and he was always been healthy since we have adopted him in 2016. But things changed quickly 2 weeks ago… we noticed that he was not as playful as usual and the area between his nose and mouth was humid. At the time we thought he only had a small cold. A few days after, we noticed a significant amount of blood in his mouth. That is when it all started….

The following day, we brought him to the vet. Good news! It was nothing severe; only a tooth that was growing in a bad angle so it triggered an infection on his gum and tongue. Hence, the vet trimmed his teeth and prescribed antibiotics, probiotics and pain killers for a week. We were so happy to get our lil boy back and being reassured that he was going to get better. Carlton got back home all healthy and happy as he used to be, relieved from the pain caused by his tooth and the infection. Cost of the treatment and meds: approximately
$180.

Two weeks after our visit to the vet, I came back home in the evening and gave each of my lil degus a treat. That is when I noticed that Carlton was not well. In fact, he was in very bad shape… he drooled all over himself and his chest and neck were all wet. I took him in my arms and noticed how weak he was. He was making bubbles with his saliva and had trouble breathing. I just could not stop crying. I called the vet and scheduled an emergency appointment the following morning.

We slept with one eye open the whole night before the appointment. Carlton was barely moving, neither was he drinking or eating. We had no choice but to force him to drink water with the means of a syringe. When we got to the vet in the morning, they said that his body temperature was very low and he was dehydrated, the infection came back and was causing him a lot of suffering. His condition was pretty critical and it explains why they hospitalized him right away in order to stabilize his condition.


The vet and her assistant detailed the cost of the hospitalization and treatments to us. We were in shock I just couldn’t help but start crying… again for the 96828th time that day. We never thought we would get to that point. Heartbroken, we even considered euthanasia, money is very tight at the moment and that would be the cheapest option. We already paid about a lot two weeks ago in medical bills and our financial situation isn’t the best with Simon being the only source of income. That being said, the vet said there are chances Carlton will stabilize and make it through. Thus, we put the cost of the hospitalization on a credit card after hesitating in the examination room for an hour in between tears. Estimated cost of the treatments, hospitalization and follow up appointments: at least $500.

So this is where I am at, asking you guys for anything to support us and help us paying for Carlton medical bills. We do not believe that finances should influence our decision to either save our beloved pet or not, as all living beings are worth saving. That is why I have decided to pay for the medical bills in full with my credit card. The circumstances and the financial stress related to Carlton’s medical bills is quite overwhelming on top of the emotional stress alone. Usually, we would never ask for any form of financial help but at this point we have no other solution other than to rely on your kindness and support. 

We understand we are asking for a lot, but we believe in the kindness of our surroundings and our surroundings' surroundings...
At this point, even only your support and thoughts would help us. Really, anything would help not only money, if you could share our story with others it would mean the world to us. Only the fact that you have made it this far in this long description means a lot ❤.

Bonjour! Mon nom est Amanda et je suis co-propriétaire avec Simon de 3 merveilleux petits dégus qui sont nos compagnons de maison. Plusieurs d’entre vous devez vous demander ce qu’est un dégu car ils sont plutôt rare ici… En fait ce sont des petits rongeurs originaires de l’Amérique du sud et la façon la plus facile de les décrire serait un mélange de chinchilla et d’écureuil. Ils vivent habituellement entre 5 et 8 ans en captivité.

Cette campagne a pour but de nous aider à recueillir des fonds pour payer les frais reliés à la condition médicale de un de nos dégus qui est tombé malade, soit Carlton Banks Sr.. Il est présentement hospitalisé chez le vétérinaire et laissez-moi dire que les coûts d’hospitalisation et de soins sont très dispendieux.  De plus, je suis présentement sans-emplois dut à une situation personnel depuis la fin du mois de Juillet 2017. Depuis, je vie de mes économies. Les circonstances soudaines et inattendues entourant notre petit patient hospitalisé Carlton nous créer beaucoup de stress financier et émotionnel qui est très dure à gérer.

Carlton a 2ans et demi et il a toujours été actif et en santé et ce depuis le premier jour de son adoption. Soudainement, les choses ont changées rapidement il y a de cela 2 semaines… nous avons remarqué qu’il n’était pas autant enjoué qu’à son habitude et aussi il était mouillé entre le son nez et sa bouche,  comme du mucus. À ce moment nous croyions qu’il avait seulement qu’un petit rhume. Quelques jours suivant le premier symptôme,  nous avons remarqué qu’il avait une quantité de sang considérable qui s’écoulait de sa bouche. C’est alors que tout à commencer…

La journée suivante, nous l’avons amené chez le vétérinaire. Bonne nouvelle! Selon lui ce n’était rien de sévère, seulement une dent qui pousse dans un mauvais angle qui a causé une infection au niveau de la gencive et de la langue. Donc, le vétérinaire nous prescrit des antibiotiques, probiotiques et antidouleur pour Carlton. Nous étions hyper contents et rassurés  de savoir que notre petit allait s’en remettre. Il est rentré à la maison en presque bonne santé et joyeux comme il l’était habituellement, mais surtout soulagé de la douleur causé par sa dent et son infection. Coût des traitements et des médicaments : approximativement 180$.

Deux semaines suivant notre visite chez le vétérinaire, je suis rentrée à la maison un soir et je donnais des gâteries à chacun de nos petits dégus. C’est alors que je me suis aperçu que Carlton n’était pas bien. En fait, il était dans un piteux état… il avait bavé tout partout sur lui-même sur son torse et son cou. C’est lorsque j’ai tenté de le prendre dans mes bras que j’ai remarqué qu’il était très faible. Il faisait aussi des bulles avec sa salive et il avait de la difficulté à respirer. Je n’arrêtais pas de pleurer à ce point. Nous avons appelé le vétérinaire et avons eu un rendez-vous en urgence le lendemain matin première heure.

Nous avons à peine dormi la nuit avant le rendez-vous. Carlton ne se déplaçait pas et lorsqu’il bougeait c’était de peine et de misère, il ne mangeait pas et ne buvait pas. Nous n’avons pas d’autre choix que de le forcer à boire à l’aide d’une seringue. Le lendemain matin lorsque nous nous sommes rendus chez le vétérinaire, on nous a informé que sa température corporelle était basse et très inquiétante. De plus, il était déshydraté  et l’infection est revenue lui causant beaucoup de douleur et d’inconfort.  Sa condition était assez critique et c’est pour cela que le vétérinaire a dut l’hospitalisé immédiatement pour tenter de stabilisé son état.

Le vétérinaire et son assistante nous ont détaillés les frais reliés à l’hospitalisation ainsi qu’aux traitements. Nous étions sous le choc et je ne faisais que pleurer à chaudes larmes… encore pour la 878236e fois cette journée. Le cœur brisé, nous avons considéré l’euthanasie, puisque notre budget était très limité et qu’il s’agissait de l’option la moins couteuse. Nous avons déjà payé beaucoup en termes de frais médicaux au cours des 2 dernières semaines et notre situation financière étant loin d’être idéal puisque Simon était notre seul source de revenu. Cela étant dit, le vétérinaire nous a informé qu’il y avait des chances que l’état de Carlton allait se stabiliser et qu’il allait s’en sortir. Alors, nous avons décidé de payer les frais au moyen d’une carte de crédit après une heure d’hésitation dans la salle d’examen entre nos pleures et nos larmes.  Coûts estimés des traitements, de l’hospitalisation et des rendez-vous de suivis : au moins 500$.

Alors nous voici, en train de vous demander de nous supporter de quelque moyen que ce soit afin de rembourser les frais médicaux de Carlton. Nous ne croyons pas que nos finances devrait avoir une influence sur notre décision de sauver ou non notre petit animal bien aimé. Pour cette raison nous avons décidé de payer les frais médicaux au complet par carte de crédit. Les circonstances très difficiles et le stress financier relié aux coûts des soins pour Carlton est dur à gérer en plus du stress émotionnel. Habituellement nous n’aurions jamais osé demander de l’aide financière mais au point où nous en sommes  nous n’avons pas d’autre solution autre que de compter sur votre générosité et votre support.

Nous comprenons que nous en demandons peut-être beaucoup, mais nous croyons que notre entourage, et l’entourage de notre entourage et son entourage a un grand cœur. À ce point ci, même vos bonnes énergies, votre support et votre présence est très importante pour nous. Vraiment, même si ce n’est pas de l’argent, si vous pouvez partager notre histoire ça nous ferait très chaud au cœur. Seulement le fait que vous vous êtes rendus autant loin dans cette longue description compte pour nous et nous l’apprécions énormément ❤.
