A year ago, I took Carl in. He was left at the shelter at 13 years old. His previous family was separating and decided that neither of them could care for him, so they surrendered him. When he came to me, he had an irregular heart rhythm, so I took him to see my cardiologist who has helped me with so many of my pets. He diagnosed him with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy. Essentially, his heart muscle is stiffening up.
Last weekend, he started to get some fluid build-up in his abdomen and labored breathing, so I needed to get him to the ER and fast. We ended up having to transfer him to a specialist hospital where he could be put in critical care and seen by some specialists. He was in right-sided heart failure, causing the fluid build-up. His prognosis is very guarded, but he’s home. He’s getting all the love, care, and medications he needs to help combat this, but ultimately, this is not something that can be cured. He’s been such a wonderful companion to me and helped fill that hole that Ruger left when he passed from heart failure. Carl is not in any pain and is happy, purring, and inhaling all his food.
His bills have gotten quite expensive, and I am just asking for help if you are able. We would greatly appreciate it!
