Carlos was originally from Medellin, Columbia.  He was a music guru, a father, husband, son, brother, mentor, promoter, DJ, MC and a school teacher.  He was a fighter for reggae music for the people.   He carried with him the essence of love.

He has worked with all the major music venues including the World Beat Center, Belly Up Tavern, Winstons, The Music Box, The Holding  Company and several others to name a few.   His tenor over 30 years included greater San Diego residencies and gigs at various music venues, radio stations and music festivals across the state.  He was the pioneer of radio airwaves of San Diego's 91x Reggae Makossa alongside Makeda Dread.

The thing about Carlos that we will always take with us was his smile.  Smiling is contagious and he knew it from the bottom of his heart.  His love for music and the people will always be remembered.   His love for his daughters was genuine.

Our hearts are hurting." - Ted Wigler / Winstons Ocean Beach

When we were a fledgling brand out of the San Francisco Bay Area in 2013, Carlos would give us a public shoutout any time he could. That was his calling — the role of supporter." - Kristy Rose / Top Shelf Music :  In memoriam of DJ Carlos Culture

"Carlos Culture was a larger than life individual who exuded ONE LOVE. DJ Carlos was always there seeing the newcomers in reggae artists as well as legendary artists and giving inspiring words of joy for the music as a legacy we leave behind but never forgotten. He will be missed and never forgotten in our Fortunate Family. Big love to his family" - Dan Kelly / Fortunate Youth

"Carlos never failed to greet me with a huge smile and ask about how the boys and I were doing. He was at almost all of our shows supporting. The sky shines a little less bright today. RIP Carlos!" - Evan Hawkins / Through The Roots.

“Carlos was always full of energy and the happiness that came from was always genuine.  No matter how hard of a night I was having, I knew when I saw him it was going to be a great night. “ - Bryan Harding / Bryan Harding Illustrations

"Carlos was just such a positive person in the music community and always helped support us from day one,  you know showed interest in helping up-and-coming bands and if it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have a lot of plays in San Diego in our early day, so we really are grateful for you Carlos.  Rest in peace brother, we love you and see you on the other side when life is a mission and love is a message”. - Moi / Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds

"Carlos Culture:  When you find someone in life who fully loves what he or she does, you can’t help but have admiration for them. Carlos Culture loved Reggae Music. He made you love reggae music. He felt the music he’d spin and shared that passion with crowds everywhere. He took pride in his work, and opened doors for countless bands to play great shows in San Diego for those crowds who were excited about the music that he was a champion of. He did all this with grace and a million dollar smile. I thank him for sharing his passion with me, as well as our conversations on family life. Rest Easy DJ Carlos Culture, you were a real one". - Mike Pinto / Musician
