I created this GoFundMe on behalf of my dad, Carlos. He contracted COVID-19 in May 2020. He went the extra mile in taking care of himself from COVID especially since my younger brother, Sammy, has down syndrome among other health problems. Nonetheless everyone at home followed guidelines and was careful but he still fell ill, along with my brother and mom. At first we were worried about Sammy getting hospitalized but luckily he had a cough for a couple days and was better. My dad on the other hand progressively got worse and couldn't speak without going into a coughing fit. Five days later he was in the hospital being put on a ventilator and two days later he was put on the ECMO machine.
After being in the hospital for so long doctors were saying there was no treatment, he had finally tested negative for COVID-19 but the damage to his lungs was done. He showed signs of ARDS and the chest x-rays showed permanent scarring, we asked about a lung transplant and they said he wasn't a candidate. We were told to let him go. We didn't agree and kept him on. Since my dad is a person of Faith and he raised a family of Christ followers as well. shortly after, one doctor even threatened to pull the plug without family consent saying he was dead and there was nothing to do. After weeks of prayer we finally met with the doctors and nurses and were told there was now a possibility for him to receive a double lung transplant.
We are working with places that might take him in, but we will need funds for medical bills, travel expenses, medicine, food, and everything in between in order for us to properly support him and his recovery. Please help us get him his new lungs, Sammy needs his dad, I need my dad, my mom needs her husband back and all the happy customers he's made when he fixes their cars need him back. Most of all the people he teaches God's word about need him back. He is a great person, always in a good mood, even while hospitalized he still laughs at jokes and mouths jokes with my mom when she's by his side.
Thank you very much in advance for any donations and for reading about my dad's much needed double lung transplant. I hope and pray that none of you or your family members has to go through this terrible situation and I wish you all the best.
