COVID has taken a loving father of three, a devoted husband, an admired Huntington Beach community member, and my dear, personal friend, Carlos Cahuantzi.
If you ever met Carlos, you would remember him and his welcoming personality. In life, there are givers and takers—Carlos was the greatest of givers, and I want to get this fund started so that all of us who received his warm and welcoming spirit can give back just a tiny bit of the love and care he gave to all of us in his short life!
For me, this is deeply personal. At 18 years old, Carlos came to work for me at Tuna Town and then at Dos Toros. For 18 years until his body surrendered to COVID – Carlos showed up, took charge, and deeply cared for every person and customer within his reach. Carlos was not just some devoted employee who did his job well. He was an extraordinary man who knew everyone by name, welcomed them with a smile, and remembered their birthdays and anniversaries—commemorating each event with a card, a cupcake, or a hug! His love of our community was evident in every interaction, every conversation that he patiently listened to, and every moment that he shared serving or sitting with people to share a laugh or a few words of comfort.
But what made Carlos even more remarkable was his complete devotion to his family. In his tragic loss, he leaves behind his wife and three kids Carlos Jr. 18, Evelyn, 13, and Christian, 8. Their sadness and grief should not be overwhelmed by the cost of his hospital bills and funeral expenses.
I know how powerful our Huntington Beach community is, and I hope that we can come together for Carlos and his family. I am beyond grateful for the support and love of our customers, many friends, community service officers who have already come forward to offer to help. This Go Fund Me will help his family get through this horrible time and serve as a testament to how grateful we are for all the love and caring that Carlos gave to us!
