Carlos and Shannon Need Our Help
Donation protected
Carlos and Shannon are both the most hardworking, caring individuals that would do anything to help anyone in any way they could. They need our help, and I am asking that anyone that has the ability to help will. Every little bit helps; no amount is too small!
On January 3, 2025, around 9 a.m., Carlos was working and was at a railyard in Chicago waiting to get loaded when he suffered a medical emergency. He was able to flag down another truck driver and get him to call 911. The truck driver and railyard workers were able to get Carlos into a pickup truck and to the front gate so that the paramedics could get to him quickly. He was then transported to Advocate Christ Hospital. They began doing tests and blood work to determine what was going on. After the CT scan, they discovered he had a V3 segment vertebral artery dissection and suffered a right cerebellar stroke. He was in the Neuro Critical Care Unit for 6 days and was released to finally go home around 5 p.m. on January 8th.
Carlos is unable to drive or lift more than 5 lbs, which means he is unable to work. He will be off work until at least May 22nd when he will be reevaluated by the neurologist to see if he can return to work. Thankfully, he has movement of all his extremities but is suffering severe headaches, dizziness, balance issues, and has lost some strength in his arms. He will begin physical therapy and occupational therapy on February 12th. They are hopeful therapy will help him regain his balance and strength.
Unfortunately, Carlos did not have short-term or long-term disability coverage through his employer. Carlos has always been a provider for his family and is already worried about how he will do that while he is unable to work. He needs to take this time to let his body heal so that he can get healthy and back to work and doing the things he loves.
If you are able to help by donating to the family, it would be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, they completely understand but ask that you keep Carlos in your prayers that he is able to make a full recovery.
