CARLOS ALBERTO ARTIGA CHICAS Cancer Support

UPDATE: Carlos has been back in El Salvador since July 4th. He has been seen by specialists and was told that the tumor has wrapped itself around the Vena Cava artery. The surgeon has offered him 2 options: Option 1 is a very dangerous surgery which would remove the mass from the kidney, however there is a high risk of internal bleeding. Option 2 would be treatment to stop the growth of the tumor which could last several months and allow Carlos a better quality of life.  Thank you for taking the time to read about Carlos’s story.  Please share, any help is greatly appreciated.  

Hi, this is Carlos Alberto Artiga Chicas, or as his friends and family know him, Carlos. Last week he went to the ER & was diagnosed with prostate, kidney & liver cancer which is not curable but treatable. We are now at a standstill since the hospital will not be able to provide treatment for Carlos since he is uninsured. Carlos has no family in the Kansas City area, they live in El Salvador. His family pleaded with him to come home so that they could take care of him, and he has agreed to do so. Carlos has worked very hard every day for the past 12+ years to support his family back in El Salvador. Carlos is going home to El Salvador to spend the remainder of his life with his family, he has been given 6 months to 1 year to live, but he will fight for as much time as possible. Despite his circumstances, he continues to smile, he is always telling us how much he appreciates everyone. He is such a humble man. He will truly be missed at work; he has a beautiful smile and a beautiful heart.

Carlos and his family will need help with his medical care, medicine, & expenses with the possibility to prolong his life with treatment in El Salvador. It will also allow him to sustain a quality way of life with his family Anything that you can give will be of so much help to him and his family.
