Carlla's Funeral Expenses

Carlla Jo Wallace passed away peacefully Thursday, January 12, 2017 surrounded by loved ones.  Although a loving mother and grandmother, emotionally she was unable to prepare for her own funeral.  In an attempt to temper the burden, her children have been setting aside funds over the last few years, but Carlla’s timing was shorter than her children’s ability to save.  These funds will be used to cover the surprising cost of a modest burial. Limited interest-free loans from local financial institutions have been secured to cover the mortuary expenses, but will require monthly payments and payoff within a year.  Any contribution will assist and sincerely appreciated.

We all have a few of those pivotal people who have left an impact in our lives. People who happen to be in the right place at the right time and inadvertently, but completely, change the course of our lives for the better; Carlla was one of those people. In addition to the security she provided, she was also a lot of fun! She had an adorably irreverent sense of humor. Evident with the weddings she occasionally attended dressed to impress wearing overalls, flannel shirt, and a felt hat. With teeth blacked out she would strum the washboard and offer a rendition of “You Are My Sunshine” as a tribute to the newlyweds.  Over the years, the backyard was a veritable playground: a 40-foot high zip line originating from the branches of a huge tree, an above-ground pool for the summer, a softball pitching camp, forts, chickens and rabbits for Easter, hot dogs and S’mores over the fire pit, and an occasional complaint from a neighbor. When the fire department would arrive, she would simply offer them a hot dog as they laughed and pulled away. Her holiday decorations in the front yard are still the most creative you will ever see. Every square foot was utilized. The back patio was turned into a woodshop as nothing was store-bought or generic. It was all unique and masterfully designed by Carlla; and this is before Pinterest! Her ideas could have easily filled an entire HGTV DIY television series. And it wasn’t just Christmas. Every holiday, seriously EVERY holiday, was an excuse to go all out. When it came to her creative genius, she was inspiring, and humble, and underappreciated. She could make and repair anything with duct tape. Who wouldn’t follow that blog? Carlla was very resourceful and always thought of others before herself. She didn’t have much to give, yet she gave everyone loving warmth. She often had holes in her pants but would never buy new things for herself; always thinking of her children first. She raised six wildly unique children.  Her later years were rough with her health declining. Even then she enjoyed hosting parties around the fire pit in the back yard under the outstretched branches of a gigantic sycamore.
