Carla’s Recovery With Breast Cancer

I’m setting this fundraising page on behalf of my mother in law Carla and her boyfriend Dave.

Since the late 2022 and beginning of 2023 Carla has been unwell. She had double bronchitis, which lead to suspected costochondritis. Then shortly after was diagnosed with influenza A. In late February/early March she started to experience an elevated heart rate, and chest pain which lead to needing a cardiac ablation.

Fast forwarding to May: Carla was feeling overall unwell, weak, and was still having chest pain. Two weeks ago she had some lab work done, which showed elevated calcium and liver enzymes. Due to the elevated calcium she was admitted to EMMC to have IV fluids to flush the excess out. This was of concern, and she was sent for various testing; X-rays, ultrasound, CT, and MRI. It was confirmed she had lesions through various parts of her body (breast, bones, and liver). After having a biopsy she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. While being in the hospital she found out her left femur had a large hole due to the cancer, which required surgery to place a stent.

Currently, Carla is recovering well and is planning to be discharged from EMMC tomorrow. She will be receiving target radiation and chemo starting this week.

Carla is out of work for the unforeseen future. My hope is that we will help Carla and Dave with the cost of medical bills, food, utilities, and any other unforeseen expenses as they navigate this emotional and difficult time.
