" WHEN WE GIVE CHEERFULLY, AND ACCEPT GRATEFULLY, EVERYONE IS BLESSED" -MAYA ANGELOU
My name is Kristina and I'm hoping to help my friend and fellow Dental Hygienist, Carla Purdom, continue to stay insured as she fights stage 3 Breast Cancer. It took weeks to convince Carla to reach out for help. She is a very humble person and would never expect a handout. All I hope is that you will read her story, and consider one or all of the following:
1. Pray, it is truly amazing what prayer in numbers can do.
2. Donate, even in the smallest increments, together we can make a difference
3. Share, if enough people see Carla's story, imagine what part you will have in helping with the support of #1&2!
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT CARLA
Carla is a 48 year old mother of a beautiful little girl named Chloe, whom she solely supports. Chloe will be 9 years old this Christmas Eve. They live in Lawrenceburg, KY. Carla is not only a great mother but a great friend and person. She is very dedicated to her career and always has been. She was even the President of our class! Carla has a wonderful sister and family who are helping when they can but as I mentioned, she is solely responsible for her and her daughters well being. She is currently paying $400 a month for health insurance for the two of them. My hope is to raise enough money to cover that for a year so she can omit one less stress, should she not be able to pick up that extra day of work.

Currently, Carla works three days a week for Dr. Nitz in Frankfort, KY, and one day a week for Dr. Hise ( the dentist she first began her career with 19 years ago ) in Harrodsburg, KY. After you read her diagnosis and required treatment , I think you will agree with my concern that Carla may not be able to continue this schedule, along with getting better and being a mom. I really love the support she is getting from both offices. These pics make me smile!

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
Carla was diagnosed with Stage Three Triple Negative Breast Cancer on May 16th of this year. This is an extremely aggressive type that doesn't respond to hormone therapy. Chemotherapy and surgery are the treatment of choice. Her first treatment began on June 20th, which she will continue for 20 weeks. A bilateral mastectomy ( removal of both breasts) will follow. Further treatment will involve radiation and reconstructive surgery. Carla has not decided on that procedure at this time. She has a long road of at least 18 months ahead, but if anyone will overcome this beast, it's Carla. She has the faith and determination to move mountains!
THANK YOU!!
I really appreciate your time . I am not a huge fan of fundraisers and such, but I could not think of a better outlet to help. I would like to take one last second to advocate for regular mammograms, and preventative medicine in general. Carla admittedly had regular exams but skipped ONE year due to a lapse in coverage. When she went back, this is what they found. Take advantage of what modern medicine has to offer us, and get those annoying screenings. Much Love. Kris
