Carla and Ainhoa

Dear Friends and Greater Community,

A Brookline and Runkle Family Carla Pineda and her daughter, Ainhoa, have tragically just lost their father and dear husband, Ruben Arnao after a spontaneous and rare occurrence of Macrophage Activation Syndrome, (MAS), that he battled this summer. If you knew him, or even just saw Ruben, his smile was bright like the sun, and together, he and his wife Carla were a shining example of a beautiful marriage and were raising their young daughter, Ainhoa, with overflowing love.

Ruben was Carla’s north star, he was the sole bread winner, he managed all the financials so that he and Carla could move to the US so Ainhoa could be educated in Brookline. Ruben took care of the family so Carla could be present for Ainhoa each day, take her to school, greet her in the playground at the end of the day, and establish a community for their daughter. Together, as a strong unit, they made this a reality for Ainhoa. This summer, Carla was by Ruben’s bedside daily while doctors tried their very best to get him through this aggressive illness and still she was able to bring joy and hope to Ainhoa as they prayed for their father and husband together.

Carla and Ainhoa need our warmth and generosity to lift them up during this devastating time. We are asking for you to assist Carla so she can afford her rent and incidental needs to raise her 10-year old daughter in Brookline now as a single parent. This will enable Carla to focus on Ainhoa, and get her settled into the school year while adjusting to their new reality. When she’s able, Carla will begin to work to sustain a life in Brookline because Ruben’s wish was for Ainhoa to be educated in the States. Carla, Ruben, and Ainhoa are a part of the Runkle School Community and Ainhoa will enter 5th grade in September.
