Honouring the Life of Carl Tafadzwa Chiganze
My name is Selinah Chadiwa, and I am writing this with a heart that is completely broken. I am the proud mother of Carl Tafadzwa Chiganze, a loving son, a devoted brother, and a young man whose life was taken from us far too suddenly and far too soon.
Nothing can truly prepare a parent for the pain of losing a child. Carl was not just my son he was my companion, my support, and a source of light in our family. His absence has left a silence that words cannot fully describe.
Who Carl Was — Beyond the Loss
Carl was gentle, thoughtful, and deeply caring. He had a calm presence that made people feel safe and understood. He was the kind of person who showed love through actions — checking in, helping without being asked, and always putting family first.
Above all, Carl was a devoted older brother to Darrien. During one of the most difficult periods our family has ever faced, Carl became a pillar of strength. While Darrien was in hospital, Carl stood by him every step of the way offering comfort, encouragement, and unwavering love. He never complained, never stepped away, and never stopped believing things would get better.
Carl gave so much of himself to others, often without asking for anything in return.
A Tragic and Unimaginable Turn of Events
In a cruel twist of fate, the very day that was meant to be filled with relief and joy, the day Darrien was finally discharged from hospital and allowed to come home, became the darkest day of our lives.
On that same day, Carl passed away unexpectedly at home.
What should have been a moment of celebration instantly turned into shock, disbelief, and unbearable grief. One moment we were welcoming hope back into our home, and the next, we were faced with the unimaginable reality that Carl was gone.
There are no words that can capture the devastation of that moment.
The Impact of Carl’s Passing on Our Family
Since Carl’s passing, our family has been struggling not only with overwhelming grief, but also with the emotional and practical challenges that come with such a sudden loss.
Every corner of our home holds memories of Carl, his laughter, his kindness, his quiet strength. His younger brother has lost his protector and role model. I have lost a son who brought meaning and warmth into my life every single day.
Grief has no timetable, and healing feels impossibly distant. Yet even in our pain, we want to honour Carl properly with dignity, respect, and love the way he deserves.
Why We Are Asking for Help
Carl’s passing was completely unexpected, and as a family, we were not financially prepared for the costs that come with arranging a funeral and memorial services at such short notice.
This fundraiser has been created to help cover:
● Funeral and memorial expenses
● Burial and related service costs
● Travel and accommodation for close family
● Immediate living expenses during this period of mourning
Every contribution helps ease the financial burden during a time when our family is emotionally exhausted and heartbroken.
Carl’s Legacy A Life That Still Gives
Although Carl’s life was cut short, his legacy lives on in the love he gave and the lives he touched. He taught us the importance of compassion, loyalty, and showing up for the people you love even when it’s hard.
By supporting this fundraiser, you are not just helping with expenses, you are helping us honour Carl’s life, his kindness, and the values he stood for. Your support allows us to say goodbye in a way that reflects the beautiful person he was.
