Carl King Motorcycle Accident
I'm writing this on behalf of my husband Carl King. He has no idea I'm doing this as he is a strong, and proud man and would never want to reach out for help. Carl is a wonderful husband, dad and Grandpa and works hard as a truck driver to provide for his family. Carl has been riding a Harley for over 30 years without issues until the afternoon of August 25th, 2019. As Carl was riding back from his best friend's dad's memorial. He was hit by a truck pulling a utility trailer. The trailer hit Carl on his right side, disconnecting his leg from his hip. He was sent flying into the ditch through a barbed wire fence. Carl and his bike were launched into the air and came down in the middle of a field. The driver of the truck did not stop, and Carl was so far from the road he was lucky that someone saw him and called 911. Police, firefighters and paramedics arrived on scene and took him to the Royal Alex hospital where the trauma team took over. When I got the call that there had been an accident, I had never been so scared. I rushed to the hospital where I had the longest wait of my life. Carl have been taken into surgery and I have no idea of the extent of his injuries. When the doctors finally came to talk to us we learned that he had the following injuries. 5 broken ribs Two broken discs in his lower back They put 2 titanium rods in his right leg to reattach his leg to his hip Torn ligaments in his right knee Hairline cracks below his knee Burns on his left leg from the exhaust and really bad bruising His left foot has multiple broken bones below the toes Carl is in for a long recovery with new things coming up all the time he was recently moved to a long-term care unit and has not been able to work on his rehabilitation to the fullest as he cannot put any weight on his legs. This has been an emotional struggle for Carl as he is not used to having to rely on others and he is worried about how he will continue to support his family. Carl is an owner operator of a semi truck and until he can drive his truck will sit and he won't have any income. Insurance claims can take months or even years to settle, yet Carl has to continue to pay his monthly bills. It's so hard for me to ask, but any contribution would help relieve some of the stress. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Piper
