On Thursday evening, May 18th, fellow homebrewer and all-around good guy Carl Eddis suffered a massive heart attack at his home in Hayward and passed away at the young age of 56. Carl was a Bay Area native and raised in Fremont.  He was always friendly and quick to share whatever was in the bottle in his hand (usually mead) – always with a running commentary of what he was pouring.  He was very proud of getting into the homebrewing hobby with his wife along side and took great pleasure in making many new friendships through this network.

Carl could talk up a storm and was quick with a joke or a story.  He had a gift of welcoming newer brewers through his exuberance and passion for homebrewing and the craft beer scene.  He loved attending beer festivals to try new tastes and try to expand his knowledge to better understand all things beer related. Carl was proud to be an AHA member and enjoyed going to the National Conferences since there were so many new friends to meet and share stories with. Carl met his wife at a beer festival and their first date was having a beer together.  Carl and Mary were inseparable after that for nearly the next 12 years - if one was present, you could be sure the other wasn't far away.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Mary Wieler; children, Austin and Elizabeth; and his littlest sweetheart, granddaughter Danielle.
