Hi my name is Candice,
I am fundraising for Magok Lam Jock who on June 2, 2025 was carjacked and assaulted at knife point while on his way to visit his children and grandchildren.
It was 5pm Monday evening and Magok was traveling on Kenilworth Ave just south of Main St in Hamilton, Ontario despite being stuck in traffic he was enjoying the beautiful weather with his windows down. He saw a man coming from in between all the cars and assumed he was a panhandler. Unfortunately the guy aggressively approached the car with a knife in his hand and grabbed Magok by his throat and arm pulled open the car door pulling Magok out of the car with the car still in drive yelling and threating him. Frantically Magok was able to get his seatbelt off and was yanked to the ground. The suspect jumped in the car and did a u-turn almost running over top of Magok.
Moments later police arrived on scene as they were already in pursuit of the suspect.
Magok was notified Tuesday evening by Hamilton Police that the car had been found and that it was involved in a hit and run in Niagara Region and that unfortunately they didn't recover his cell phone.
On Wednesday when we went to pick up the car from the tow yard we found to car to be damaged beyond repair and there was no key. There was a bill waiting Magok of $536.75 for the two times the police had the car towed as well as storage fees which is absurd that as the victim of a carjacking he is responsible for these fees.
Unfortunately Magok is currently not employed so was financially unable to pay the bill or the costs of repairing his car so he had no choice but to sign the car over to the tow yard to cover the fees
Magok is now left without transportation, injuries both mentally and physically as well as no phone. This makes finding a job more difficult as well as getting to work, and attending treatment challenging.
Magok also has no car to help transport his brother who is visually impaired to medical appointments as well as to go spend time with his 6 kids the youngest whom is only 6 years old and 2 grandsons who he loves to spend time with and were excited for their weekly trips to the beach. Magok also helps their mom (me) with things around the house and with the kids as i have serious health issues and injuries.
Magok is a very kind and loving person who is always willing to give a helping hand in his church, the South Sudanese Community, or anyone he could help.
If you are able to help with any amount so Magok can get himself a phone and most importantly a vehicle so he can help those of us who depend on him as well as getting a job and able to get to and from work as well as to his necessary medical appointments because the carjacking it would be greatly appreciated and we thank you.
