Carissa's spinal surgery journey

Hello friends and family,

My name is Daria and this GoFund me is for my beautiful friend and sister, Carissa. She is a Christian woman, selfless mother of 3 children, wife, daughter and friend to so many. She currently works full time as a police officer and has for the past 25 years. She has spent her life serving the people in the cities of Regina and Medicine Hat and now it is time we help her. Years of wearing the duty belt have led to debilitating back pain and dramatically impacted her ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time, affecting her ability to live life to the fullest. Currently on a wait list in Canada, with time frame for an antiquated procedure is well over 24 months.

Carissa and her family have prayerfully considered what procedure would give her the best quality of life; ultimately a timely and pain free spine. This has led them to a hospital in Germany. They are so thankful to be given this opportunity and are hopeful for a successful surgery. Carissa and her husband, will be going to Germany on November 17, 2024, for two weeks to complete the surgery and intensive rehabilitation. The surgery will involve plates, screws, cages and spinal fusion in two areas. Recovery is expected to be approximately 6 months in length.
