Hi my name is Carissa Liccardi. In July of 2018 I started to notice my left hand was growing weak. I decided to go to the doctor thinking it was carpel tunnel but they weren't sure. Doctors then proceeded to tell me I had ALS. (Lou Gherig's Disease.) Soon August came around and I couldn't use my left hand at all. All my motor skills in my hand were gone. My family and I decided to seek more opinions from more doctors, I didn't want to face the fact that I had ALS and it wasn't the answer I was seeking. I went to the neurologist and had a MRI done and we soon discovered I had a brain tumor.
I was sent to Baystate Hospital because supposedly I had a 9cm tumor in my brain but the doctor in Pittsfield mistaked it for "swelling." After the summer of trying to figure out what was wrong my family and I went to Baystate Hospital in Springfield. I had to leave my 2 year old daughter behind at home in the care of her grandmother, and my husbands daughter was not able to come with us due to work and school. At Baystate I was told I was at a high risk for seizures, I was not allowed to drive, have coffee, or even work. Doctors could not remove the tumor in fear that I would be left paralyzed because it was too big.
Then the seizures happened. During the second seizure I was wheeled out in an ambulance and sent to Boston Bringham and Womens Hospital, with focal seizures that lasted for 2 days. Unable to move my body or speak I was put on Ativan to calm me down. My stay in the hospital lasted 8 days. The seizure came completely unexpected and my husband had to pay for parking, hotel and food throughout the whole trip. My husband followed me on the trip to Boston in his car ,and on the way there two of his tires exploded.
On December 4th I underwent a biopsy which confirmed that I had glioblastoma grade four which is a very aggressive brain cancer.
I have been traveling back and forth from Boston and Dana Farber for visits, check ups and treatments. The money I am asking for is to help my family and I, with gas for back and forth travel, food, my dad and husbands hotel stay, and for any other emergencies that may come for the future. The money would be a huge help and greatly appreciated thank you for your time.
