Hi friends and family and thank you for stopping by! In November 2015, my cousins Ryan and Danielle found out they were expecting and were beyond excited to start a family. Halfway into the pregnancy, they were told a parent's worst nightmare: that their baby boy would be born with a serious health condition. Please read their story below and consider helping them as their medical and living expenses are going to be a challenge over the coming months.
On November 20th, 2015 Ryan and I found out that we would be expecting our first child in July 2016! We were beyond thrilled to start a little family and so thankful that God gifted us with a little blessing! Through the routine check-ups and doctor appointments, everything looked great, our baby was perfect! On February 23rd we went to the doctor for the 20-week anatomy scan of the baby to ensure proper growth and confirm that all the organs were functioning correctly. This appointment confirmed that we were going to be the parents of a baby boy! A week later, I received a phone call from my doctor saying that the ultrasound showed that something did not look right in his little chest. Ryan and I were immediately referred to the specialist where we would undergo another ultrasound. That ultrasound confirmed our worst fears...our son did in fact have something wrong within his chest cavity. Our son was diagnosed with a condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. Ryan and I were devastated that our perfect little boy would be faced with this issue. After countless doctor visits and specialty appointments, Ryan and I faced the reality and severity of our son’s condition and what birth and life would look like for him. The severity and treatment of his condition will not be known until the day he arrives. We do know that once our son Kamden arrives, he will immediately be placed on a ventilator and rushed to Rady Children’s Hospital, where he will be stabilized and monitored. The first surgery will occur within the first few weeks of his life to correct the Diaphragmatic Hernia; however, he will most likely need multiple surgeries to fully correct the condition. With all the unknowns and long journey of recovery ahead of us, Ryan and I are faced with unplanned medical expenses, as well as missing time from work to care for Kamden. We are thankful that God is allowing us to be his mommy and daddy and believe that God will heal our son. We are thankful for all of our family and friends who have been there to love and support us through this crazy time, and know that at the end of this road, God will be glorified for His miracle, Kamden.
