Hi, my name is Anthony Sant'Anselmo and I am fostering a late middle-aged female boxer/pitbull named Chloe.
Her owner, Tony, a well-loved Playa del Rey local, sadly passed away so I have been caring for her for about 3 weeks while trying to find her a new home. My friend Mallory, Tony's neighbor, works at a veternary clinic, so I've been taking her there for check-ups and such.
Last week, she began bleeding profusely from her gums, so I took her to the Veterinary Center that Mallory works at and it was determined Chloe had blood-clotting issues and very low platelets. Apparently, a normal dog is above 150,000 platelets, while she was around 21,000. They gave me medications to amp-up her count, but the last few days she has gotten progressively worse as it takes time for the meds to kick-in.
She's had about 15 accidents and her stool and vomit was full of blood. Lethargic and not eating, I had her hospitalized on March 4th, 2016. Her platelet count has hit the hundred thousands (!), however, her red blood count is at very dangerous levels and she is requiring a blood transfusion to buy her some time (for the medications to continue to do their job and for more tests to be done.) One of the threats of not getting the transfusion is she could very well pass away.
I personally did not know Tony, the owner of Chloe who died, but share lots of mutual friends and from all I've gathered, she was his life. It'd be tragic for her story to end here. We are asking for any help from Tony's family, friends and anyone touched by this lil' beast, to chip-in with us for her $2,000-$3000 blood transfusion (it's about $390 a unit, plus hospitalization, etc. at a specialty hospital called 'City of Angels/ACCESS' in Culver City.)
Receipts will be uploaded and provided for every dollar used. Any additional funds not swallowed by the bill, would go to Chloe's treatments and general well-being to keep her afloat - as we try to get her back on her paws and find a good, permanent home. We need to get her on this immediately. Once she's out-of-the-woods, I will resume caring and fostering her. Please refer to the photo link at the bottom page of Chloe - contains some graphic images.
Thanks for your time and any and all help - I know Tony would appreciate it - as any pet owner would.
