CARING FOR CARTER

Donation protected
Having a child with special needs is a secret world that many of us don't see. We hear about the difficulties, but it's not until we SEE them with our own eyes that we can really understand the heartbreak and struggles some parents face. This is my nephew, Carter.
He's a brilliant, funny 8 year old boy who enjoys watching Toy Story on repeat, loves playing with his toys, can eat pizza for breakfast, and is fascinated with tools. But Carter experiences life much differently than your average kid. He was diagnosed with severe autism and severe ADHD. This combination can make life extremely difficult making simple trips to the grocery store feel daunting. More recently, Carter has been experiencing seizures including Grand Mal seizures where Carter loses consciousness and experiences violent muscle contractions. And while doctors are trying to find answers to help Carter, treatment and emergency room visits are becoming more frequent. Earlier today, Carter was rushed to Stanford's Healthcare Hospital ICU and they are now awaiting results from an MRI. We are hopeful for answers but fearful of results. Carter is under the sole care of his mother, Bethany. Bethany, is a beautiful, funny, caring mother that I met back in high school. Literally, the first day I met Bethany, she called me her sister and we've been family ever since. That's the kind of person she is. She makes you family. Those of us who know her, have witnessed an unimaginable strength and perseverance she's embodied in taking care of her son. And while it's been awe-inspiring to witness, it's also been heartbreaking. She's Carter's biggest advocate and supporter. With all of that, however; she does struggle with asking for help. That's why I'm here. We need your help! Caring for Carter takes extensive time and energy, and being a single mother, Bethany misses quite a bit of work. Caring for Carter also means a lot of trips to the emergency room, doctors, and neurologists. Caring for Carter also means needing help with groceries and bills to stay afloat. So, by donating to Caring for Carter, you will be helping with all of the basic needs Carter and Bethany need to get through such a difficult time. Any and all donations are very much appreciated! Please also consider sharing this story and thank you for Caring for Carter.
