UPDATE 9/30/2015:
It has almost been 2 years since Cameron's accident and there is now a need to purchase a van so that Chandra can take Cameron to appointments and outings.
The cost of this van is $20K, and Chandra has managed to save $5K so far, but still needs $15K. Thankfully, insurance will pay for the necessary modifications, about $45K total, but does not cover the purchase of a van. Folks, this is bottom line essential for Chandra to move Cameron around by herself, as now, she has to depend on the facility to move him. Her goal is to bring him home, and this is the first step for this to happen.
Her part-time job does not provide much income as most of her time is spent with Cameron.
Would you please give whatever you can to make it easier for a mother to care for her son?

DEDICATION:
This Go Fund Me site is dedicated to Cameron Alston, age 19, and his mother Chandra Clark. It is also dedicated to the limitless strength and hope of a mother’s love. The love a mother has for her child knows no boundaries. In the face of tragedy, is often fierce with enough power to defy medical opinion.
A mother’s love is the witness to ordinary miracles in many extraordinary ways, and Chandra considers it miraculous that even after Cameron faced devastating and life-changing injuries, he can acknowledging his mother, his champion. He can also recognize her voice again, as she helps him continue the difficult struggle toward healing and restoration of his mind, body and spirit.
CAMERON’S STORY:
Cameron Alston, was a typical upbeat young man, with loving parents and family, and was excited about his future. In May 2013, he graduated from high school, and then moved to Colorado in August, to live with his father to attend Johnson and Wales Culinary Institute. Unfortunately, the day after Thanksgiving, November 29, 2013, as he was working to save for his college tuition, Cameron, age 18 at the time, was seriously injured when a rack above him broke, crushing him beneath 400 pounds of glass. As a result of this horrific accident, he suffered significant brain trauma and numerous internal injuries.
CHANDRA’S STORY:
When his mother, Chandra Clark, received the awful phone call that her son was involved in a terrible accident, and that he may not survive his injuries, she dropped everything to rush to his side. Chandra even moved to Colorado for 6 months, until Cameron was able to be transported to Houston to receive ongoing medical care. She has been Cameron’s primary advocate overseeing his recovery, along with numerous surgeries, ongoing treatments and physical therapy. Because she is so dedicated to his recovery, and to ensure that Cameron is receiving the best care possible, she spends every spare minute with Cameron.
While Chandra sees this as a mother’s labor of love, her new reality includes celebrating his August 12th birthday, and spending all the holidays with him while he is in the hospital, so that she can provide him with some normalcy until he recovers enough to come home.
Chandra has been asked many times, “How do you make it through this? How are you able to keep it all together?” And her response has been, “My strength doesn’t come from me, but it comes through my faith in God, and the strength of my family and friends who have all been praying for Cameron’s recovery. They have been there for us, praying for me and our entire family.” While Chandra knows that their lives will never the same, each day is a gift, and she will continue to fight this battle with him and for him, and considers her son, Cameron, the greatest blessing that God has given her.
CAMERON’S FIGHT:
While the doctors worked to keep him alive, they did not know if he would survive his injuries. Chandra has watched helplessly, as Cameron has endured many setbacks, including pneumonia and other illnesses, as well as suffering hidden side effects of some of the medications he’s been given. With this, there have been many nights that Chandra sleeps by his bedside, because she wants to be there to comfort him if he wakes up in the middle of the night.
Cameron has survived the accident, and has proven that he is a fighter. 16 months after the accident, however, Cameron’s fight continues. Along with numerous brain surgeries, he has made progress, and is now able to recognize his mother’s voice, but he was left completely blind. Cameron was recently moved to TIRR in Houston, (world-renowned, as this is where Congresswoman Gabby Gifford was treated) where he is receiving the best treatment and therapy possible by their wonderful staff, as they all work together for Cameron’s recovery. The family is hopeful that he will be well enough to move back home with Chandra, and continue to work toward a full recovery.
THE NEED:
We hope to ease some of the financial burden, so that Chandra can focus on Cameron’s recovery instead of worrying about expenses and Cameron’s ongoing care needs.
Transportation and other expenses quickly add up, such as gas to drive the 80+ mile round-trip to TIRR, parking fees, and meals. In addition, there are also legal fees associated with Cameron’s care as Chandra has been Cameron’s court-appointed legal guardian following the accident. Even though his accident happened at the work, the legal process is slow and ongoing, leaving Chandra as the primary decision maker for his medical care.
Once Cameron is well enough to be released, there will be significant additional expenses associated with transitioning Cameron from the rehabilitation center to modified living accommodations. Also, Cameron will need costly home medical equipment including a wheel chair, a properly equipped van, specially outfitted, for Chandra to transport Cameron to all of his medical appointments, and other items not covered. Chandra’s goal is to provide Cameron with these all of these accommodations, and to provide him with the ongoing care that he needs.
Would you please help this family and show your support for a loving, and courageous mother and her son as he continues his battle to recover?
Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading their story, and may God richly bless you! #caringforcameron
