- Update- 12/21/24
Laekyn returned to ER a few days ago & has been readmitted to Womens & Childrens Hospital. After undergoing a bone marrow biopsy, she has officially been diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her mother Jordan has all details on her Facebook Page. Treatment is approximately 2.5yrs. So, Laekyns Fight begins.......
In our family, nobody fights alone. She fights, we fight
My name is Heather (Hardy) Walker. My little brother Michael & his fiance Jordan have a daughter named Laekyn Reigh Hardy. She is 3yrs old & currently admitted to University Hospital in Columbia. Currently Laekyn does not have an official diagnosis. She is undergoing various testing & procedures to get further information in order to make this decision. Back in August she began running fever after a cat scratch that became infected. She had completed antibiotics and the wound appeared to heal with no more fever. She started re-running fevers approx a week ago that were treatable with meds but would continue to return. She also started losing her appetite but continued to behave normal such as playing. Tuesday morning she woke up extremely tired, wanting to sleep, & appeared lethargic. It is being investigated if this is related to her symptoms & waiting on results from Mayo Clinic. In the meantime, there are also symptoms that have doctors looking into other causes, as well. Some of the ones mentioned so far are: HLH, Leukemia, bone marrow failure, rare extreme form of Anemia, Tick Borne Illness, & the cat scratch fever disease, antibiotic reaction, & several viral infections, as well. She has been diagnosed with streptococcus pneumonia & rhino virus. Her blood cell count has been the largest area of concern, causing her to be nutropenic & pancytopenia (meaning blood cells across the board are critically low). She has so far received 2 blood transfusions & a platelet infusion. She is on oxygen to help support her cell saturation to allow her body to rest & heal. She has thus far received countless blood draws, ultrasounds, scans, & still with possibility of other testing including bone marrow biopsy & lumbar puncture. She is under the care of hematologist/oncologist, & an infectious disease doctor. They have also mentioned bringing in a physical therapist in to keep her muscles stimulated while she is bed ridden. Laekyns insurance ended in July & they were currently looking for options. None the less, this does mean that she has no insurance at this time so you can only imagine how quickly bills are adding up! No parent should ever have to make medical decisions based on money. Michael & Jordan will approve every test
& treatment necessary for their sweet girl, no matter the cost. However, being a business owner, (Michael is the owner of Hard Knocks Concrete) him missing work affects not only his own finances but he has employees to pay & we all know bills do not wait during emergencies. Michael & Jordan also have 6 other children whom they share custody with other parents. They are struggling being away from them, as well. My brother is a proud man who works very hard. He does not ask anything from anyone. He loves to help others & is always willing to lend a helping hand. He is not one to ask for a handout & this go fund me may upset him, or his pride however I know that he has been contemplating whether to return to work or to stay with Laekyn & Jordan. He left for a short time & it literally tore him up. He should not have to choose between working or staying with his daughter. He deserves to be there & by Jordan's side. I know both of them miss being with their family. I cannot begin to understand the stress they are under. The intentions of setting this up is to help make their decisions a little easier & lessen the stress on them both. The amount was recommended to start with by the website, as I have no idea where to begin.... but I do know medical care is not cheap & this is only Laekyns 3rd day of her stay with no specific discharge date until they find a diagnosis. I want to thank everyone who donates in advance for their kindness. It is greatly appreciated. I would also like to encourage all who pray to continue to keep this sweet baby in your prayers, as well as all of us who love her.
If you have other ways you'd like to help you may contact me.
Thanks so much,
Heather
