In Memory of the Long Family — For Cooper and Pasta

On August 18, 2025, our community was shaken by the tragic loss of the Long family of Madbury, New Hampshire — Ryan, Emily, Parker, and their daughter Ryan. They are survived by their son James, who now carries forward their love and spirit.

In the midst of this heartbreak, two other cherished family members remain: Cooper and Pasta, the Longs’ beloved dogs. These faithful companions were a source of comfort and joy — a living, breathing connection to the family we lost.

With the support and permission of the grandparents, Cooper and Pasta are now being lovingly cared for in a safe and stable home. Bill Hall of Durham has stepped forward as their primary caretaker and the organizer of this fundraiser, with custodial help from Bevie Ketel, a neighbor and family friend. Because one of the dogs has been diagnosed with agoraphobia, it has been especially important to keep the brothers together. No family member has been able to take them both permanently, but in this home, they are thriving — supported not only by each other, but also by Bevie’s certified medic dog, who has become a steady source of comfort.

Bill is 100% committed to covering Cooper and Pasta’s needs out of his own pocket if necessary. This fundraiser simply gives the wider community an opportunity to share in that care — easing the burden and ensuring the dogs’ wellbeing is not limited by one person’s resources.

One immediate need is Pasta’s upcoming neuter surgery, scheduled for September 30th, which his veterinarian has estimated will cost between $950 and $1,300. This important procedure is part of his long-term health plan and will help ensure he continues to thrive. Your contributions will go directly toward this surgery, along with ongoing veterinary care, food, and other essentials for both dogs.

We’re asking for your support to help cover these costs so that Cooper and Pasta can remain together — happy, healthy, and safe. While this may be a temporary placement or possibly a forever home, we are holding space for James and the family. Should they ever wish to welcome the dogs back into their lives, our role is simply to provide care and stability until that time.

This fundraiser does not take away from James. In fact, media coverage will highlight both fundraisers so that both goals can be met. Some donors may even feel moved to give a little more than they originally planned when they see the dogs’ needs alongside James’. In this way, supporting Cooper and Pasta adds to the spirit of compassion surrounding this family’s legacy.

What matters most is honoring the memory of the Long family by giving Cooper and Pasta the love and continuity they need and deserve. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps.

Please be assured that all funds raised will follow the care of Cooper and Pasta — whether they remain with us or are reunited with their family. Your generosity directly supports their wellbeing, wherever their future leads.

❤️ Thank you for helping us keep Cooper and Pasta safe, loved, and together.
