We are organizing a GoFundMe to help Susan Macdonald with expenses for her cancer care. Despite a challenging diagnosis, we are optimistic about a clinical trial's potential for improved longevity and quality of life. But we need your help!

To provide some background for people who may be hearing about Susan's health issues for the first time: In May of 2024, Susan was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. That summer, she had chemoradiation treatment, followed by surgery in November. In January of 2025, a CT scan revealed that the cancer had metastasized to her lungs, with seven lung nodules. She has continued with chemotherapy for the past year, which fortunately has been effective at preventing the further growth of the nodules.

Susan has been off work for two years battling cancer with her trademark feisty attitude while being surrounded by her peeps and pooch, Tillie. She is doing everything she can to be as well as possible during this time. She feels extremely grateful for her medical care and especially for the wonderful love and support from family and friends.

Fortunately, Susan has the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial with Dr. Marcelo Cypel at the University Health Network at the University of Toronto. The treatment would include surgery to remove the nodules, followed by an oxaliplatin perfusion of the lung. Oxaliplatin is the drug that has been successful in Susan's IV chemotherapy treatments. They operate on one lung at a time, so there will be two surgeries in Toronto: the first on April 15th and the second in June or July.

Each time Susan has surgery, she will need to stay in Toronto for three weeks to recover. She will be staying with her support team (AKA Mom and Dad, Wayne and Donalda!). The Go Fund Me is to help with transportation, dog care, and accommodation costs.
