Caring for Katie

On her way to her favorite coffee shop this morning, Katie Minter and her beloved pup, Minnie, were involved in a serious car accident. Tragically, Minnie did not survive the accident, and Katie remains in critical condition.

Katie received excellent initial trauma care and continues to receive the care she needs. At this time, there are still many unknowns about what her recovery will require and how long that road may be. As her medical team learns more in the coming days, we will have a better understanding of what Katie and her family will need throughout her recovery.

Katie is so many things to so many people—a wife to Phil, a mom to Ellie and Luke, a daughter, a friend, and a paramedic who has dedicated her newly minted career to caring for others in their moments of greatest need. Now, it is our turn to care for Katie and the people she loves most.

So many people have already reached out to ask how they can support Katie, Phil, Ellie, and Luke during this incredibly difficult time. Right now, there are simply too many unknowns to know exactly what their needs will be. In the days and weeks ahead, we anticipate there will be tangible ways to help—meals, childcare, lawn care, and the everyday things that become overwhelming when a family is facing a crisis like this.

In the meantime, one thing we know is that tragedies like this bring unexpected financial burdens alongside the unimaginable emotional ones. We are starting Caring for Katie with an initial goal of $10,000 to help ease some of that burden, including unexpected time away from work, medical expenses, replacing their vehicle, and other needs that may arise as Katie and her family navigate the days ahead.
