As a friend of the amazing Corbett Jackson I know that we can make a difference for Corbett and his family! I invite you to read Corbett's story below and then consider giving to support the Jackson family. Thank you so much for your generosity and for making a meaningful difference in the lives of the Corbett and Chrissy Jackson family!
Over the last few months Corbett has been recovering from a devastating health issue (as explained below). It has been a long road to recovery. He and his sweet family are strong in faith, they support and love each other, but they need our help. Corbett is fortunate to have some financial help from short-term disability and insurance from his employment but that covers just a portion of their daily living expenses. He has nearly exhausted all of his paid time off (PTO). We have an amazing opportunity to provide them some security during this highly stressful time of his recovery.
His story is as follows (as written by Chrissy):
"Corbett started to have headache symptoms July 4th. 18 days later he also started to have blurred vision and arm and face numbness along with headaches. On the second ER visit they finally took him seriously and did a CT scan and MRI and found about 12 lesions/abscesses in his brain; it was a strep infection in his brain. It is undetermined how the strep got into the brain. For those of you that are concerned about strep infection in the brain, don't worry, it's incredibly rare and you probably won't know of this happening to anyone else you know in your lifetime, unless you are a neurologist.
The largest abscess grew in the center of his brain to the size of a golf ball- creating the most damage. He was treated at CPMC in San Francisco with heavy antibiotics and salt solution through a picc line and three brain surgeries in the months of July, August and into September. He was at CPMC for a total of 2 months.
The damage from the abscess left Corbett's right side of his body numb and his left eye closed. He also struggled with his speech.
He was in acute rehab in San Franscisco for a month relearning to walk, talk and move his body. He was discharged middle September. He is now working with home therapy to continue his rehabilitation process. He meets with a physical, occupational and speech therapist. Since being home his left eye now opens and works! He can walk independently, including stairs and can care for himself. His speech progresses every week and he is doing his best to use his right arm despite not feeling it. Neurological healing takes a long time. It is amazing to see this process take place- it is so subtle and sometimes undetectable. As I look at pictures and video from weeks prior I realize how far he has come. He still has a ways to go but has come so far and we are so grateful for that blessing.
Corbett is little by little regaining his abilities and life. He attends church, goes on dates with me, attends his kids soccer games, walks kids to school with me, takes out the trash and unloads the dishwasher. He is incredible!
We appreciate your continued thoughts, prayers and support."
Corbett is recovering, but has a long way to go. It will most likely be over year until he is able to return to his normal day-to-day living. Currently he is at home, completes 2-3 hours of at-home therapy, takes a nap to recover and is supported by his family. His eye is opening again and his body is starting to recover. He is learning how to walk with normalcy and really wants to exercise again.
I spoke with Chrissy yesterday and asked her if she would allow us (as his friends, colleagues, family, and those that want to make a difference) to form a gofundme account. She was extremely grateful and humbled by the thought of all of you giving to support Corbett and their family. Let's make a difference and show our support!
