Help us Care for Collin Morrison

Donation protected
On Saturday February 5th Collin Morrison was travelling back to Kelowna from Calgary with his older brother Scott. Collin was helping Scott move his family to the Okanagan for the summer. They were close to Field BC when a cube truck lost control and hit their vehicle. Collin’s brother Scott died at the scene and Collin was taken to Calgary where he remains in critical condition in the ICU.

Almost everyone who works, volunteers or visits the Kelowna Family Y knows Collin and his mother, Madeline, who have both worked and volunteered at the YMCA for more than 19 years. Collin has a huge heart, devoting a lot of time reaching out and helping others in any way he can - by sending jokes when someone needs a pick-me-up or by checking on friends to see if they need anything. Always wanting to help out, he takes care of shoveling snow at his apartment building and making sure his neighbors are okay.
Camping, fishing and quadding are some of Collin’s favorite hobbies, and he and Madeline often enjoy sailing, paddle boarding and kayaking on Okanagan Lake together. He loves old county music and going to concerts or having a Budweiser on a deck with a friend. Collin loves to cook and try out new recipes -his beef jerky was a huge hit with his co-workers and friends. His beloved cat Bailey keeps him busy when he isn’t looking after others.

Collin’s injuries from the accident are excessive. He is suffering from a broken neck, multiple breaks to both of his legs, and, most concerning, blood vessel damage and internal bleeding. He has already undergone two surgeries since the weekend and once stable, he will need to undergo more. Though not able to talk right now, he has already won the hearts of the nurses caring for him with his thumbs up and other gestures of appreciation.

Collin’s mom Madeline is grieving the loss of her oldest son Scott and helping to support Scott’s family, while keeping in constant contact with the Calgary medical team caring for Collin. She is also caring for her husband Norm, who is dealing with some medical issues of his own. Madeline is the most positive and upbeat person one could ever meet. She makes friends with everyone that walks through the door. She makes sure that birthdays and special occasions are always celebrated and spends hours putting her special touches on important occasions. She and Collin are incredibly close and Madeline’s support, care, and love will be essential to his recovery.

We want to support Collin in his recovery and get him back home where his parents, family and friends can help him recover from this terrible accident. For the immediate future, Madeline will need to travel to and from Calgary to be with Collin. We want to ensure she can get there safely, regardless of weather and will have a comfortable place to stay so she is taking care of herself in order to take care of her son. Once Collin returns home, he will need many supports to fully recover.

Please consider donating to help Madeline with the travel and day to day expenses she will be facing and build a fund that can help care for Collin when he returns home.
