Caring For Cloud Kirbo

Just as Cloud Kirbo was turning three, he mysteriously began to lose the ability to walk. After several weeks of testing at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, his doctors there narrowed it down to a type of white matter disease, which affects the nerves that link various parts of the brain to each other and to the spinal cord. These nerves are also called white matter. White matter disease causes these areas to decline in their functionality, and Cloud's condition began declining rapidly.


Heartbreakingly, Cloud has now been diagnosed with Krabbe Disease, a devastating disease which affects both the central and peripheral nervous systems, which are responsible for all of the body’s voluntary and involuntary functions. Although there is no cure for Krabbe Disease, Cloud's parents are doing everything within their power to ensure he receives the the best care and treatment available.


The generosity of each of you with your prayers, words, thoughts and deeds has been both greatly appreciated and their source of strength. Please continue to pray for Sloane and Carlyle as they pour their love, heart and soul into Cloud. For those interested in helping them cover their mounting medical bills and the unknown costs of Cloud's treatment and support ahead, if you feel compelled, you can contribute to help them out here.  For those of you who know Sloane and Carlyle, please respect their need for time to process Cloud's diagnosis and their strong desire not to have to explain over and over Cloud's condition and prognosis.
