Funeral Expenses for Celene

Celene is a fighter, but we all need our community when we're the most vulnerable. Her doctors have indicated that treatment options are limited at this point. Her family will need support as they enter this stage of her fight against cancer.

Our community was in a 10-month fight for Wilmer’s release from the McHenry County Correctional Facility after he was taken from his home during a violent ICE raid that took place in Celene and Wilmer's home in March, 2017. Organizing for Wilmer's freedom in 2018, erasing the gang database that targeted Wilmer, was an act of love. Celene and Wilmer faced ICE in the courts because that was their act of love and resistance. Organizing has been one of the ways we care for one another. Together we fight against the systems that hurt and oppress us. Our community also shows up when one of our community members needs extra love and support.

Celene, fighter and mother, is currently in the hospital. She's been battling brain cancer since 2019. This week her children are visiting her while wearing protective hospital gowns. Her 10-year-old was barely granted visiting access so that he could see his mom on his birthday. Celene, Wilmer, and her five children need our community support to help with living costs and health expenses.

Celene es una luchadora, pero todos necesitamos a nuestra comunidad cuando estamos en una situación vulnerable. Sus médicos han indicado que sus opciones para tratamiento son limitadas en este momento. Su familia necesitará apoyo al entrar en esta etapa de su lucha contra el cáncer.

Nuestra comunidad estuvo en una lucha de 10 meses por la liberación de Wilmer del Centro Correccional del Condado de McHenry después de que lo sacaran de su casa durante una redada violenta de ICE en la casa de Celene y Wilmer en marzo de 2017. Organizar para la libertad de Wilmer en 2018, borrar la base de datos de pandillas que apuntaban a Wilmer fue un acto de amor comunitario. Celene y Wilmer enfrentaron a ICE en los tribunales porque ese fue su acto de amor y resistencia. El organizar ha sido una de las formas en que nos cuidamos los unos a los otros. Juntos luchamos contra los sistemas que nos lastiman y oprimen. Nuestra comunidad también está presente cuando uno de sus miembros necesita cariño y apoyo adicional.

Celene, luchadora y madre, se encuentra actualmente en el hospital. Ha estado luchando contra el cáncer cerebral desde 2019. Esta semana sus hijos la visitan vestidos con batas protectoras de hospital. A su hijo de 10 años apenas se le concedió acceso de visita para poder ver a su madre en su cumpleaños. Celene, Wilmer y sus cinco hijos necesitan el apoyo de nuestra comunidad para ayudar con los costos de vida y los gastos de salud.
