Caring for Carson Clemons
Donation protected
Little Miss Carson was born to Greta & Blandon on September 27th, she's their first, she's beautiful, she has Blandon's bold features and Greta's strong spirit and she's doing her best to fight for her life, but she needs our help ❤️ Carson was born with heterotaxy, asplenia (no spleen) and dextrocardia (the heart is flipped like the page of a book and that twisting causes numerous mechanical issues). She's a fighter but her heart issues are quite severe- especially the pulmonary atresia (no pulmonary valve or supporting structures). Her little body grew a ton of collateral vessels and they were able to return her body’s unoxygenated blood to her lungs despite all the other issues. That is why she did so well after birth and is continuing to do fairly well. However, she will eventually outgrow all that collateral supply.
Ultimately, baby Carson could have surgery to correct her heart issues but it would be a long and sketchy road, and at this point she hasn't been accepted as a surgical patient (there is only one surgeon who might take her case). However, her care team at UIHC is pretty positive that going home on medical management is a sound option. The hope is that she will continue to fight and grow bigger and even stronger until she can have a transplant or medical advancements are made. In the meantime, if the plan is for her to go home then we can help by letting Greta & Blandon be home with her as much as possible ❤️
No matter the course of her journey, having her parents with her and being as comfortable as possible for as long as possible is a gift within our reach. Let's show baby C and her family how no one in our community fights alone. Please consider making a donation to support this sweet, little heart warrior, Carson Grace!
